Has Hive Improved You?

There are a lot of benefits to engaging consistently on Hive, whether it be writing articles, commenting on posts, reading, witnessing, curating... and probably a few benefits for less than positive actions, like spamming, cheating, scamming, and generally being a dick. However, what I was wondering wondering was how your participation on Hive has changed you.

Are you better or worse?

image.png

Of course, that binary option doesn't really encapsulate the dynamics of a human, because we can get better in one area and degrade in another. For instance, I have improved my understanding of the economy and finance, but I am now in the habit of getting less sleep than I should get. I have improved my potential for a better financial future, but I have withdrawn from a lot of social interaction - though that las bit is not all attributable to Hive.

However, there are lots of other improvements that various users might have noticed in themselves and I have head things like increasing language skills, becoming more outgoing, understanding different perspectives better, more willing to take ownership, becoming more reflective....

There are many more.

And I thought it would be interesting to list a few in a poll and let you pick three that resonate the most with you. It would be great if at least all people commenting would vote through Peakd or Ecency, and hopefully add some of the negatives you might have experienced also. For instance, a negative for me is that I am less trusting of people, because I have seen so much scam, and so many good personas fall into their real personality that is far less good.

But Hive is an incredibly interesting place once you dive in and start to engage with the community, and figure out a little bit of the technology and philosophies in play. Yeah, there are a lot of different that behave in lots of ways both good and bad, but that is the dynamic of life too, it is just that we don't often see the actions of our neighbours as clearly as we do the actions on the blockchain.

While the list is far from exhaustive, I hope that reflecting on it might show point to how you have changed, how far you have come in your time here, or highlight that you haven't changed much at all.

Is it better to change, or stay the same?

While you think on that, let's get into the poll. Please add more into your comments and some of your reflections, if you have any.

Thanks for making an effort!

Confidence is a big one. Do you think it has translated into your daily life outside of Hive?

Of Course it has
When you feel that you have value even in a community that is unknown to others outside, such as Hive, your self-confidence in dealing with others increases.

Hive has given me the opportunity to do several things, I wish I could vote for more than 6. BUt one is that I have learned to be more accepting of others and differences in identities as well as opinions. I also struggle with belief in myself the last few years and reading some posts on Hive helps me with that. There are a couple writers on Hive that are some real motivators and leaders. It allows me to relieve stress and anxiety by occupying my mind in a positive manner. There are always new foods, cultures and places I learn about or things to try that I find here on Hive. Meeting and commuicating with people daily on and off chain makes me feel part of a community. and have found that I am coming out of my shell more and communicating more positively than in the past.

Do you find that you end up discussing some of what you come across on Hive with people off Hive? I would love to see some kind of data on how many conversations it has sparked that are not written onto the chain!

It allows me to relieve stress and anxiety by occupying my mind in a positive manner.

This is a big one I believe! There are better and worse ways to be occupied and I reckon for the most part, Hive encourages the better.

I do discuss the occasional article with someone, usually with my wife, brother or sons. Usually it is the personal interst, foodie or craft articles with the wife and the more sociological ones with my brother and sons.

I think that the lore we discuss globally issues locally, the better. Abd of course, the more we talk with those we care about, about the things that matter to us, the better. :)

As one writes, one begins to acquire different skills in writing. I also gained different perspectives on financial matters.

Those are some good ones. It was kind of hard to cut the list down to just six, but I was able to get it sorted out.

Blogging on Hive improved my writing skills. Recently, I've been using AI to generate images and I've developed some design skills as well. Now I'm learning canva to design posters.

That is decent. Personally, I prefer to use my own images, but I have thought it might be useful for some additional images in a post - just not the cover :)

Of course Hive changed a lot of me.
Especially my finance and investment plan.
I am hoping i can grow big on Hive. And can support others.

There is no doubt that Hive has made me grow as a writer and has allowed me to continue learning and applying it to my teaching. I really feel part of this world called "Hive", and that is why I want to continue to evolve within the platform in order to correspond to it and thus also to be able to provide more support to those who are part of this great family of hivers ❤️😏

You re teaching? Children or adults?

I think there should be more teachers who understand economics, social behaviours, and community building at a practical level.

So many choices hahaha and so many of them are relevant for me!

I think ultimately the last one. I've learned to appreciate SO MUCH more being here on Hive. Seeing people who lost electricity every single day in Nigeria and Venezuela makes me appreciate my 24/7 electricity. Seeing people who are homeless and hungry makes me appreciate my job and ability to live. I've also learned to have much more appreciation for the place I live because it truly is beautiful, even if I'm so used to it having grown up here my whole life. Many other people have truly reminded me it is beautiful which is great!

There are so many examples but definitely Hive is the root of it all!

Do you find that when you are out and about, you look at things differently, like evaluating if it would make a good post or not? I find I do, but it means that I end up looking more closely at things I would have otherwise missed. It is kind of like macro photography.

Yeah I do haha. When I take walks with my son, I will look at something in a different perspective. I don't always write about those things but if I go somewhere and we find something new I figure out how to take a few pictures and figure out what to write.

It's also made me remember more of the things I do with him which is good too!

One bad habit that Hive has caused in me is to check the mobile every now and then. Another bad habit is to use the mobile lying on my bed in the dark at night.

I have voted for th good aspects above. I would like to add that Hive has made me more thoughtful of the happenings in my daily life. Also, I feel more independent and conident afte being on Hive.

Do you check more because of hive being hive, or would it be the same of it was Facebook or TikTok? I think the ability to see potential earnings can drive people to check more.

Facebook seems depressing to me. I don't use. And I have no account on Tik Tok either. So Hive being Hive is the reason.

I think the ability to see potential earnings can drive people to check more.

That's one of the driving factors. I agree.

I have actually changed my outlook on life. I wouldn't necessarily say I changed it, but it helped me form my understanding of the good and bad of decentralization and anarchy. It helped me hone my conflict resolution and avoidance skills. It also taught me many lessons and made me realize the power of consistency and the power of human interaction.

This is very important to recognize! Change can also mean reinforcement. It is like having the basics of math knowing the numbers and +-/* and then learning more of how they can be used and where they apply in daily life.

Has Hive Improved You?

Certainly it has improved me, working digitally, that too working from home for more than a decade, I feel hive as my second home, where I can express my feelings in posts / comments, which is very important.

This question really got me thinking. Hive has made me better. I write better and I'm starting to get interested in more useful topics. When I used Facebook I was just reading nonsense

Yes, Hive has made me a better person. I enjoy reading other people's opinions on many topics, especially economics. I like to watch how people manage their money in Hive from afar and compare their actions with mine.

Most other people trust other people's opinions too much and often this is the opinion of the majority (crowd)

I can say that I have tried new things. HIVE has been the door of crypto world for me. Also, I used to write travel posts somewhere else, but then I wanted to write them here, more specifically and longer ;) and HIVE taught me that we can earn from our experienced, no matter what it is about.

I used to write just postive and negative things of where I visited; but here, I write them for someone who could imagine the journey ;)

I think the biggest thing for me personally is that I have improved my english language skills a lot. I know it's still far from perfect, but it wasn't too long ago when I couldn't put sentences together at all.

It is a very interesting post and poll. It would even be better to know the background and personality of those answering to better understand where they were coming from before HIVE.
All in all, it is a great way to understand how we all see value in being here.

The background would be interesting to see for sure. I reckon that those with decent experience in life, tend to have a better time here than those without :)

Has Hive Improved You?

At first I read this as has Hive empowered you...

Thanks to Hive I can earn from home. I can work as many hours a day as I want. And I believe that in Hive I have unlimited earning potential. Also I earn by doing what I want to do. I like to believe that thanks to hive I became a better artist. I am sure that without Hive I would have never made some of my favorite creations. Pieces in which I used photos of Hive girls as an outline for my works. Like in these:

Prarasti rūmai.jpg

Nakties sparnai.jpg

Undinė.JPG

I would probably had never thought about using my own photo as an outline either:

One thing i like about Hive isn't just about the platform, I have notice (maybe this isn't applicable for others) that people are kinder and sensitive in commenting compared to the other social media app, and most posts make sense tho.

Has hive improved you

Yes it has.

I unconsciously loss interest on things and that makes me inconsistent.
Sometimes I get so carried away with life anxieties and I complain about things I am unable to do.

Hive thought me how to be consistent with things, hive help me think outside the box.
I am more grateful for what I have while striving to be better. Reading others people story on how they are struggling and being positive has help me develop some amazing quality as kindness and compassion.

Although I am still finding my way around here, I am grateful for this wonderful platform.

I have a lot to say...

Consistency is hard to achieve when there is a constant stream of distractions. Perhaps Hive helps people get a bit of distraction, but also encourages the focus to act.

One thing that's not on your list is that I have a better understanding of other countries and culture. When you have conversations or read posts from people from countries that was never on your radar before, you learn an awful lot about their life, their culture, the difficulties they face. Real life stories from real people

I voted on quite a number of choices, pertaining to being a better writer and learning new stuff. Financially, though it's not a life changing amount, I could get myself a couple cups of coffee with the rewards. ;)

The markets will get less volatile over time, so the big "score" will get rarer. People are chasing it with meme coins, but most are going to lose on those.

As an obsessive thinker, I really appreciate having a place to dump my reflections on mental health based on the things I feed my mind every day. Once I am done with it and make my post, my mind can go and reflect on something else, releasing some pressure off.

I am working on trying make my mind a more clear and direct machine of important considerations, so sometimes is lonely not having anyone to talk about it because it is not as fun for others as it is to me to consider psychologic stuff. So is nice having somewhere to let all that out and play, and hopefully, someone reads anything helpful that ends up making someones lives better.

What a great way to make us think a little bit more deeply about our "relation" with the community, and to make a self assessment of our actions and thoughts trough the interaction.

Are you better or worse?

Well, I think that I've changed in somethings, and became more resilient, not necessary to became better, or even worse... But to be more attentive to the things that happen around us, and the before, I didn't reflect on them so much... Or even on things that happen "inside" us!

Is it better to change, or stay the same?

Well, I totally agree with you in this point. Sometimes, changes aren't as desirable as we might think. Take for instances our personality. It is a positive thing, that if we haven't got any personality disorder, that by changing in it might lead us in to a rabbit hole that could turn our life completely inside-out. By the other hand, after a good reflection, and assumption of our less correct actions, a true change might lead us in to a more peaceful mind set with ourself and the others.

I've voted in only two options, the first one (and most important for me) "I have made friends I value"

I can say that I've know two persons in one of the Hive Fests, that I keep regular contact with them!

The second option that I vote for was: "I've become a better writer". This one is by far the most important personal change that operated in me since I started to be a more regular (daily) poster. And for that, your community "Reflections" had a very important part in that :)

0
0
0.000
avatar

But to be more attentive to the things that happen around us,

So many say "appreciate the small things" but their attention is only ever on the big and shiny things. So, anything that can make us be a little more present and localised, is good.

I can say that I've know two persons in one of the Hive Fests, that I keep regular contact with them!

This is great! I only went to one fest in 2018, and am still in contact with several of them almost daily :)

I am also glad that the community helps you improve your writing and hopefully your thoughts on things also. Most of us are pretty clever, if we give ourselves the space to think and reflect on what is the best way forward.

Basically for few days I learned how to appreciate people due to stories of my fellow hivers, from their daily lives, reflection and it change my perspectives in life that no matter how hard life is we should strive harder and aside from that I learned how to composed fluently which give a big impact on my future research.

When I joined hive, my communication with people was meager but hive improved my communication with fellow hivers and there are many new things I have learned as well.

For example, my cooking skill improved as a result of hive food community and more to that, hive opened my eyes to understand that android phone could serve as my office and I have also make valuable friends who have imparted me with valuable knowledge and as a result, I can now care for my aged mom and people around me at large.

Am grateful for hive.
