[ENG/ESP] Teamwork on a tank cleaning day at Wyndham Concorde
The weekend has arrived, and with it, my well-deserved rest. This week has been particularly intense and full of various tasks related to the Sunsol chain, which has left me with that mixture of exhaustion and satisfaction of a job well done. Friday, in particular, was a day that demanded a lot from us, both physically and mentally.
In a previous post, I had already told you that we were hired by the hotel where my husband works, the Wyndham Concorde Hotel, to completely clean their water tank. It was an important commitment, both because of the magnitude of the work and the prestige of the place. We felt honored that they requested our services and we are also very motivated because someone outside the Sunsol chain has requested us. So we prepared ourselves as always, with responsibility, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to do things right.
We left early in the morning, almost at dawn. This was necessary because we had no prior information about the internal structure of the tank; the hotel did not have any plans or technical details about it. When faced with the unknown, the best strategy is to arrive early and be prepared for any scenario. Another important point of the day was that my husband was able to accompany us. Since he knew the facilities and staff well, he would be an invaluable help throughout the day.
Llegó el fin de semana y con él, mi merecido descanso. Esta semana ha sido particularmente intensa y llena de diversas tareas relacionadas con la cadena Sunsol, lo cual me ha dejado con esa mezcla de cansancio y satisfacción por el deber cumplido. El viernes, en particular, fue un día que demandó mucho de nosotros, física y mentalmente.
En una publicación anterior ya les había contado que fuimos contratados por el hotel donde trabaja mi esposo, el Hotel Wyndham Concorde, para realizar la limpieza completa de su tanque de agua. Era un compromiso importante, tanto por la magnitud del trabajo como por el prestigio del lugar. Nos sentimos apagados de que solicitarán nuestro servicio y también estamos muy motivados porque otro ajeno a la cadena Sunsol nos haya solicitado.Así que nos preparamos como siempre, con responsabilidad, entusiasmo y muchas ganas de hacer las cosas bien.
Salimos temprano en la mañana, casi al alba. Era necesario, ya que no teníamos información previa sobre la estructura interna del tanque; el hotel no contaba con planos o detalles técnicos del mismo. Ante lo desconocido, la mejor estrategia es ir con tiempo y estar preparados para cualquier escenario. Otro punto importante del día fue que mi esposo pudo acompañarnos. Él, al conocer bien las instalaciones y al personal, sería una ayuda invaluable durante toda la jornada.
When we arrived at the hotel, the maintenance manager was already waiting for us. After a cordial greeting, we immediately unloaded all our equipment: pumps, hoses, brushes, tools... everything we might need to tackle the challenge. Each member of the team has specific duties.
Al llegar al hotel, ya nos esperaba el gerente de mantenimiento. Tras un saludo cordial, bajamos de inmediato toda nuestra instrumentaría; bombas, mangueras, cepillos, herramientas… todo lo que podríamos necesitar para enfrentar el reto. Cada miembro del equipo tiene funciones específicas.
For example, one of them is exclusively responsible for the operation and maintenance of the pumps, because that is his specialty. Thanks to him, we began to extract the accumulated water, which became increasingly cloudy as we progressed.
Por ejemplo, uno de ellos se encarga exclusivamente del funcionamiento y mantenimiento de las bombas, porque es su especialidad. Gracias a él comenzamos a extraer el agua acumulada, que salía cada vez más turbia conforme avanzábamos.
Then, the team entered the tank to brush its inner walls. This cleaning stirred up the sediment even more, causing the water to turn brown and thick. That's when something unexpected happened: one of the pumps stopped pumping water.
Después, el equipo ingresó al tanque para cepillar sus paredes internas. Esa limpieza agitó aún más los sedimentos, haciendo que el agua saliera marrón y densa. Fue ahí cuando ocurrió un imprevisto: una de las bombas dejó de echar agua.
Fortunately, we always carry backup equipment, but we decided to check the one that had failed first. The pump operator took it apart and, upon opening it, showed us the problem: inside was a piece of plastic bag with a rubber band and a bunch of dirt that was blocking the flow of water. Thanks to his skill, he managed to unclog it and get it working like new, which saved us time and complications.
Afortunadamente, siempre llevamos equipos de respaldo, pero decidimos revisar primero la que había fallado. El encargado de las bombas la desmontó y, al abrirla, nos mostró el problema: en su interior había un pedazo de bolsa plástica con una liga y un montón de tierra que estaban obstruyendo el paso del agua. Gracias a su habilidad, logró destaparla y dejarla funcionando como nueva, cosa que nos ahorró tiempo y complicaciones.
After finishing the brushing, we proceeded to completely disinfect the tank using calcium hypochlorite, ensuring that it was in perfect sanitary condition before refilling it. It was demanding work, but very satisfying.
Tras terminar el cepillado, procedimos a desinfectar completamente el tanque utilizando hipoclorito de calcio, asegurándonos de que estuviera en perfectas condiciones sanitarias antes de que se llenará nuevamente. Fue un trabajo exigente, pero muy satisfactorio.
Once our work was done, we decided to celebrate. It was Friday, and one of the guys on the team was celebrating his birthday. We couldn't pass up the opportunity. We ordered some pizzas for delivery and, amid laughter and jokes, sang him happy birthday. He wasn't expecting it and was pleasantly surprised by the gesture, which made the fatigue even more worthwhile.
Una vez concluida nuestra labor, decidimos celebrar. Era viernes y, además, uno de los chicos del equipo estaba de cumpleaños. No podíamos dejar pasar la ocasión. Pedimos unas pizzas por delivery y, entre risas y bromas, le cantamos el cumpleaños. Él no se lo esperaba y quedó gratamente sorprendido por el gesto, lo cual hizo que el cansancio valiera aún más la pena.
As evening fell, we gathered our things, said goodbye to the hotel staff, who let us know how pleased they were with our work.
Then we drove the team home. It was a long day, yes, but full of achievements, camaraderie, and little joys that make it all worthwhile.
