I wish you all a great Wednesday. Mine will be very busy, as we have to change the filter loads at Sunsol Isla. But I'll tell you more about that tomorrow.
Yesterday, Tuesday, was the day scheduled for that change. However, as we were getting ready to leave the house, we noticed that the work truck was making a rather worrying noise. When in doubt, we decided not to take any chances and take it to the repair shop. So we rescheduled the filter change for today, Wednesday.
My husband, who usually checks the truck when something is wrong, noticed that the exhaust pipe was broken. Unfortunately, he didn't know how to repair it, so a friend recommended that we take the vehicle to a specialized repair shop called “Silenciadores Daniel.” According to him, the owner is very knowledgeable in his trade and has a good reputation for his experience. The repair shop is located on Buenos Aires Street, at the corner of Marcano Avenue, in the city of Porlamar, Nueva Esparta state, on Margarita Island.

Ayer, martes, era el día previsto para hacer ese cambio. Sin embargo, cuando nos estábamos preparando para salir de casa, notamos que la camioneta de trabajo emitía un ruido bastante preocupante. Ante la duda, decidimos no arriesgarnos y llevarla al taller. Así que reprogramamos el cambio de cargas para hoy, miércoles.
Mi esposo, que suele revisar la camioneta cuando algo no anda bien, detectó que el tubo de escape estaba partido. Lamentablemente, él no sabía cómo repararlo, así que un amigo nos recomendó llevar el vehículo a un taller especializado llamado “Silenciadores Daniel”. Según nos dijo, el dueño es muy sabio en su oficio y tiene buena reputación por su experiencia. El taller está ubicado en la calle Buenos Aires, esquina con la avenida Marcano, en la ciudad de Porlamar, estado Nueva Esparta, en la isla de Margarita.
Fortunately, they attended to us immediately. As soon as we arrived, they took us to the work area and inspected the truck. When they lifted it up, they showed us that the entire exhaust system was damaged. It was a real mess. Apparently, on a previous occasion, my father had tried to repair part of the pipe, but that intervention ended up affecting other sections of the system.
Afortunadamente, nos atendieron de inmediato. Apenas llegamos, nos pasaron al área de trabajo y revisaron la camioneta. Al levantarla, nos mostraron que todo el sistema de escape estaba dañado. Era un verdadero caos. Al parecer, en una ocasión anterior, mi padre había intentado reparar una parte del tubo, pero esa intervención terminó afectando otras secciones del sistema.
They gave us a quote of $362. Although we thought it was a considerable expense, we understood that it was necessary, since the truck is an essential tool for our work. We agreed to have the repair done immediately.

This experience taught me an important lesson: mechanical problems can arise when you don't perform proper regular maintenance. I used to think that checking the oil, gas, and battery was enough, but now I know that maintaining a work vehicle requires a more thorough inspection. I learned that there are components that aren't visible to the naked eye but also need attention.
The positive thing is that you learn something new from every setback. In this case, in addition to solving the problem, we gained experience.
The workshop works with new, high-quality materials, which gave me confidence. That's where their prices come from. Although they're not the lowest, they're justified by the warranty they offer. They showed me all the damage in detail and patiently explained each step of the process. It's not that I'm going to become a mechanic now, but it's always useful to know how our work tools work.

El taller trabaja con materiales nuevos y de buena calidad, lo cual me dio confianza. De ahí provienen sus precios, que aunque no son los más bajos, se justifican por la garantía que ofrecen. Me mostraron con detalle todos los daños y, con mucha paciencia, me explicaron cada paso del proceso. No es que ahora me vaya a dedicar a la mecánica, pero siempre es útil conocer cómo funciona nuestra herramienta de trabajo.
We were told that the work would be ready in an hour and a half, so we decided to use that time to have lunch. Since it was midday, we looked for a place nearby that was inexpensive and served good food. We walked about seven blocks until we reached a place called “Punto Criollo,” which offers tasty and affordable menus.
My husband, who has a big appetite, ordered pasta with garlic and parsley bread, one of the most popular starters at the restaurant. I have a smaller stomach and fill up easily, so I preferred to wait for my plate of pabellón criollo, which was delicious.

After lunch, we walked back slowly, enjoying the stroll and the beautiful weather. When we arrived at the workshop, the truck was ready. They had raised it up to show us the work they had done. When they lowered it and started it up, the change was obvious: there was absolutely no noise; it seemed as if the engine wasn't even running. It was a total relief.
Después del almuerzo, regresamos caminando lentamente, disfrutando del paseo y del hermoso clima. Al llegar al taller, la camioneta ya estaba lista. La tenían elevada para mostrarnos el trabajo realizado. Al bajarla y encenderla, el cambio fue evidente: no se escuchaba absolutamente nada, parecía que el motor ni siquiera estaba encendido. Fue un alivio total.
Although it was an unexpected expense, I consider it a necessary investment. Now I know that I should take the truck in for a checkup at least once a year. They recommended doing it every 12 to 16 months to avoid future problems.
With peace of mind and satisfied that we had resolved the issue, we returned home to prepare for the next day's work. The weather was still beautiful, so we took the opportunity to enjoy the natural and urban scenery along the way.
Aunque fue un gasto inesperado, lo considero una inversión necesaria. Ahora sé que debo llevar la camioneta a revisión al menos una vez al año. Me recomendaron hacerlo cada 12 o 16 meses para evitar futuros problemas.
