Uncertainty And Uncorrelation

I'm the type of person that likes connecting dots about almost everything just for the fun of it and perhaps, discover something new and profound along the way.

Of course, there are certain cases where there are no dots to connect, especially moments of coincidence or spontaneity. It just happens.

Recently, I've been caught on a dilemma about making an important life decision. It's no secret that life isn't strictly black or white. But when it comes to decision making, there's an aspect of a black or white, a no or yes.

I feel like this influences us to force ourselves into a binary box, a "yes" or "no" answer that life rarely offers. We crave the comfort of certainty, of knowing exactly what lies ahead, but the truth is, much of life unfolds in a beautiful, messy gray area.

In a way, an aspect of this beautiful, messy gray area is the interplay between uncertainty and uncorrelation.

When Uncertainty and Uncorrelation Meet

Uncertainty can best be pictured as a swirling fog that often surrounds many of our decisions. We can't predict the future, control every variable, or eliminate all doubt.

But instead of viewing this as a hindrance, we can see it as an opportunity. As much as uncertainty invokes the 'fear of the unknown' in us, it also pushes us to explore and adapt or embrace this very thing that we fear.

Uncorrelation, on the other hand, can be viewed as the mischievous twin of uncertainty. It's the chance encounter, the unexpected coincidence, or the butterfly flapping its wings in one corner of the world that sets off a hurricane in another.

I think uncorrelation is a great reminder that our lives are also intricate tapestries woven with seemingly unrelated threads.

Just because two things happen together doesn't mean one caused the other, but it can still spark a connection, a new perspective of sorts towards a totally different direction.

Navigating Life's Crossroads

My dilemma, the one that had me searching for certainty, became a case study in navigating this dynamic duo. I was primarily caught between the familiar comfort of the "yes" and the alluring mystery of the "maybe."

But then, I had this moment of understanding that the answer wasn't hidden in a single choice or can be reduced solely to it, but rather in acknowledging the interplay between uncertainty and uncorrelation even after the decision has been made.

By that, I mean learning to trust the process and follow the whispers of intuition, while also being open to the unexpected turns life might take.

This is not to say that embracing uncertainty is easy. I think it requires courage, vulnerability, and also a healthy dose of self-compassion. But when we become accustomed to it, then it's also liberating.

In a sense that it allows us to shed the burden of needing to know everything, to let go of rigid expectations, and to embrace the beautiful, messy adventure that is called life.
