Thailand Part #6: Happy new Year

Hi there, geez, I hardly get anything done. Since I've been here, my life has been anything but boring and when I feel a hint of boredom, something happens that immediately snaps me out of it...

In the meantime, we've had New Year celebrations all over the world and here in Thailand too.

Here in Thailand they call it "Songkran".
What can you say about it and what is done differently here on New Year's Day?

Well, as far as I understood, the Thai New Year or Songkran is the Thai New Year's holiday (just like 31.12-1.1). It is celebrated every year on April 13th, but it is celebrated over several days. Usually 2 to 3 days.

Songkran, as we know it from social media posts, is celebrated outside with street parties and equally loud music and an extremely colorful water fight.

People gather collectively in squares and equip themselves with filled water buckets, water spray guns and anything else they can find and fill with water and go out to get each other wet. As it's extremely hot here at the moment anyway, cooling off like this is just right and can be refreshing.

I researched what the name means, the internet told me that this word "Songkran" even comes from the Hindu Sanskrit / Devanagari and means something like "to pass by" or "to approach". I hope this is true, if anyone can confirm it please leave feedback in the comments.

Songkran is celebrated throughout Thailand, with the Thai people placing particular emphasis on a new beginning and a kind of spiritual cleansing.

This New Year's festival is particularly about moving forward. Why does water play such an important role? Well, water plays an important role on this occasion because it symbolizes washing away the past year, cleansing oneself and letting go of the old

During the Songkran festival, people traditionally go to the temple, where many believers pour water on Buddha statues and on the hands of Buddhist monks as a sign of respect, which is also said to bring good luck.

What else goes on? I adopted a cat which got into a cat fight so now I care about her inside... She will be an indoor cat for a while now. Also I still try to learn Thai language but it is really hard to learn. Soon I will move. I wanna live for a while on an island. So some updates are coming surely the next time.

This is the so called "Mountain Buddha Temple" in Aonang, Krabi.
It's has round about 140 steps to walk up it's said.

Thailand Part #6: feohes neues Jahr

Hallöchen, hach Mensch, ich komme zu kaum etwas. Seitdem ich hier bin ist mein Leben alles an2als Langweilig und wenn ich mal einen Anflug von Langeweile verspüre, passiert etwas, was mich sofort aus der Langeweile ausreißt...

Mittlerweile hatten wir nun weltweit und auch hier in Thailand Neujahr Feiern.

Hier in Thailand nennt man es "Songkran".
Was kann man dazu sagen und was wird hier anders gemacht an Neujahr?

Also, soweit ich es verstanden hatte, dass thailändische Neujahrsfest oder halt Songkran genannt, ist der thailändische Neujahrsfeiertag (so wie bei uns 31.12-1.1). Dieses wird jedes Jahr am 13. April zelebriert, aber es wird über mehrere Tage gefeiert. Meist so 2 bis 3 Tage.

Songkran, wie man es auch von den Social Media Beiträgen kennt, wird sowohl draußen gefeiert mit Straßenfesten und ebenso sehr lauter Musik und einer extremen teils bunten Wasserschlacht.

Dafür sammeln sich die Menschen sammeln kollektiv qn Plätzen an und rüsten sich mit gefüllten Wassereimern, Wasserspritzpistolen und allem, was sie sonst noch finden und mit Wasser füllen können, aus und gehen so raus, um sich gegenseitig nass zu machen. Da es hier eh extrem heiß momentan ist, kqm solche Abkühlung genau richtig und kann erfrischend sein

Was der Name bedeutet habe ich recherchiert, so sagte mir das Internet, das dieses Wort "Songkran" sogar aus dem hinduistischen Sanskrit / Devanagari stammt und sowas wie "vorbeigehen" oder "sich nähern" bedeutet. Ich hoffe das stimmt auch, falls es einer bestätigtlen kann hinterlasst mir ein Feedback in den Kommentaren bitte.

Songkran wird in ganz Thailand gefeiert, wobei die Thailänder ihre Intension besonders auf einen Neuanfang und eine Art spirituelle Reinigung legen.

Bei diesem Neujahrsfest geht es insbesondere darum, sich nach vorne - vorwärts - zu bewegen. Warum Wasser so eine wichtige Rolle spielt? Naja, Wasser spielt bei diesem Anlass eine wichtige Rolle, weil es symbolisch dafür steht das vergangene Jahr von sich abzuwaschen, sich zu reinigen, altes loszulassen

Während des Songkran-Festes geht man traditionell auch in den Tempel, wo viele Gläubige als Zeichen des Respekts Wasser auf Buddha-Statuen und auf die Hände buddhistischer Mönche gießen, was ebenfalls Glück bringen soll.

Ich hoffe meine Eindrücke des Songkran-Festes gefallen euch. Wie feiert ihr am liebsten das neue Jahr?

Was ist sonst noch los? Ich habe eine Katze adoptiert, die in einen Katzen-Kampf verwickelt war, verletzt wurde und nun von mir aufgenommen wurde, also kümmere ich mich jetzt um sie im Haus... Sie wird jetzt für eine Weile eine Hauskatze sein. Außerdem versuche ich immer noch, die thailändische Sprache zu lernen, aber es ist wirklich schwer und wird noch eine Weile dauern. Bald werde ich umziehen. Ich möchte für eine gewisse Zeit auf einer Insel leben. Also ein paar Updates kommen sicher die nächste Zeit.
