HOME ENVIRONMENT MAINTENANCE – PART ONE

Home Environment Maintenance is the act of cleaning and controlling the encroachment of plant, pest or natural occurrences where we live. Most of us find it difficult to take care of our environment. But don’t let it be a burden. After this brief article, you will understand that there are different innovative ways to maintain our environment.
The Different Ways of maintaining our environment are:
a. Weed Control
b. Flood Control
c. Wind Control
d. Refuse Disposal
e. Pest Control

Weed control is the way you prevent unwanted plants from growing in your environment, farmland, or vineyard. But today we are going to concentrate on the RESIDENTIAL ENVIRONMENT.

Weed Control is categorized into:
a. Chemical Method
b. Mechanical Method
c. Biological Method
d. Weed Prevention Method.

A. Chemical Method

The chemical method is the application of anti-weed chemicals or herbicides to the weeds or the soil to control the growth of unwanted plants (weeds) in our environment.
This herbicide will control annual and perennial weeds and can be directly sprayed on decorative (Flower) plants. Glyphosate can also be safely used in decorative (Flowers) planting beds as long as the spray solution does not contact the foliage or bark of decorative species (Flowers). In some cases, it may be best to use a sponge to apply the glyphosate solution to avoid contact with desired ornamental species.
Examples of those chemicals are Bromoxynil and Paraquat, EPTC. There are also Do it Yourself Methods I will teach you after this article.

B. Mechanical Method
The mechanical method is the use of farm tools like cutlass, shovels and other farming equipment to clear or uproot weeds.

C. Biological Method
These are the use of other weed plants (Like some planted grass or seed weed), weed Insects (Bittle), and Animals to eat up some species of weed in our environment. But I know this method is not common to most of us.
Organic (tree bark or plant hulls) and inorganic (crushed rock) mulches are used also. wood pieces (Mulches) suppress annual weeds by covering the soil from sunlight, which is required for weed seed germination. To effectively suppress weeds, wood pieces (mulches) should be about 4 inches thick and replenished periodically. If wood pieces are applied too thick or begin to decompose they can become wet due to rainfall, and allow weed seeds to germinate on top of the mulch. These wood pieces can be found in wood mills. I advise you to use it for decorative purposes, in your walkways.

D. Weed Prevention Method
The weed prevention method is carefully treating soil tools from a weed seed that can be transferred from an area to your location. For example. Washing, salting and oiling after usage at a forest or farm location. Before keeping at home.

How do I get to know this? I met a friend mixing some solutions in a bucket after weeding his home environment. When I approached him to know what he was doing. He explained this process to me. And how effective it is.

Below are the compositions:
Salt and Vinegar Solution
Ingredients

1. White vinegar
2. Salt (also known as Sodium Chloride)

Instructions
Step 1: Mix one gallon of white vinegar with two cups of salt.
Step 2: Mix it until the salt is completely melted.
Step 3: Transfer the solution to a spray bottle.
Step 4: Apply the mixture directly onto the weeds, avoiding contact with nearby plants.

Apply some care with this solution, as salt can affect soil health and may not be fit for all areas.
Best Application For: Perennial weeds, most especially those growing in driveways or pavement cracks.
Effectiveness: Ideal for weeds in areas where you want to prevent regrowth.
