UBER IN LAGOS
I was new in Lagos. Not new-new but I didn't know my way around very much.that day, i had to be at my workplace. It was the first time I was to begin training, physical training, for the remote job that I work at now.
I was expected to go in by at least 9am. Since it wss my first day, I thought to book a ride. An Uber, for easy, quick transport as opposed to the razzness I'd heard and experienced a little in Lagos. I didn’t want that for a first day. Lucky for me, onewass just around the corner. When he came, just as I jumped in, I asked him if he knew the place(one of my friends gave me this tip), and he swore to it. Then he asked if it was a cash or card trip, and I said I'd do transfer. He began to murmur, I just kept quiet.
I saw him fumble with his phone a little, and then he told me to cancel the ride so we could go off, to which I declined. I've heard people talk about riders who request this, and it always disgusted me cause they obviously are ripping the transport-connect companies off. When he saw I refused, he asked how much the ride was costing on my phone, and I told him. Wss about 6k-8k or thereabouts. The murmuring increased about how the money was too small and the place was far. I kept quiet, and maybe because he realized that I didn't care, he started the ride.
The journey was progressing well enough. The AC was not turned on as it should, but I didn't care cause I wound down my side of the window. At a point during the journey, I saw that the driver deviated from what the map was showing and taking a different route. As I should, I questioned him, letting him know I'd rather follow the map since I wasn't conversant with Lagos roads.
In a rude tone, he said the road on the map wasn't in good condition and he wouldn't want his car to go bad because of the small money that he would be getting from that trip which isn't even up to what it should be. He said he's the driver and has been plying the roads for long so knows all the good roads, bad roads, and shortcuts. So I kept mum.
We had gone some distance when I heard him say, in low tone, "ah-ahn, them work on this road? I no come know am again o." I just kept quiet. Then he gave this laugh that was very somehow and tried to talk to me about the road.
I reminded him he said he knew using way well also told him that I was running late. To cut the story short, he stubbornly refused to ask anyone for directions, and after we'd gone past a particular place twice, I just told him to park.
I called a friend, my friend whom I stayed with during the while, and he just called another friend who lived around the area to come pick me up. It's funny how the rider's fare was far below what was even on the ride details. It was both an annoying and a hilarious experience.
It was out of the goodness of my heart that I didn't dash the driver 1 star sha. Very anyhow person!
Thanks for stopping by.
