Why Cabbage Is A Superfood
Hello friends of City of Neoxian ❤️💕.
Today I return to share with you on a healthy vegetable that we are all missing something from which is Cabbage 🥬. A superfood with an outstanding nutrient profile and one that’s exceptionally high in vitamins C and K.
Cabbage is one of those foods you don’t often thinking about, unless for those who knows what they are benefiting from this dense, leafy 🥬 vegetable. While it looks similar to a head of lettuce, cabbage is actually a member of the “cruciferous” vegetable group that includes broccoli 🥦, kale, radishes, Brussel and more.
Cabbage comes in a variety of colors - green, white , purple and red, and gas been grown around the world 🌎 for thousands of years, being a common ingredient in many dishes such as kimchi and sauerkraut, a well known delicacy in Asia especially Korea 🇰🇷
Cabbage like other cruciferous vegetables 🥗, is parked with vitamins and minerals that our body craves, while remaining low in calories. And given its nutritional profile, it certainly qualifies as a superfood, but we always see other vegetables as more trendy and fashionable.
And along with being low in calories, salt and sugar, cabbage 🥬 offers us some fiber and protein as well which is why we should see cabbage as an important healthy food for balance diet that can support our digestive system . We should therefore also note that protein from plants 🌱 is considered a healthy alternative to protein from meat 🍖, especially for vegans and vegetarians.
However, cabbage 🥬 is a source of antioxidants which are compounds that helps the body fight against what we know as radicals which are compounds that can damage the body cells. Free radicals are thought 💭 to contribute to the development of disease 🦠 such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Antioxidants helps reduce the free radicals in our body and also improve our immune system, fighting inflammation that can be a damage to our body.
This humble vegetable,”cabbage” 🥬 may not seem like a superfood in the classic sense. But this everyday vegetable is packed with benefits for good health. And one last thing to know is that cooked cabbage as a vegetable gives and supplies us with more antioxidants such as carotenoids and ferulic acid than they do when eaten raw.
