The changes marriage brings in the lives of married couples should be seen as the beginning of a complete dimension that will involve both the man and the women in everything concerning the marriage. Because when two are joined together they practically becomes one. In other words, the two shares and takes responsibilities equally.

In this recent times doctors 🥼 are making it compulsory and mandatory for the men to participate and be around during the check up visits their wives attends at intervals once their pregnant called antenatal. These are periods when the baby”s growth process and progress is monitored. And this has helped fathers to fully be aware of every information about the unborn baby. This also shows from then on that men (fathers) are already involved in the expectation of their babies 👶.

And from then on everything begin to change for the couples, knowing that they are expectant parents already and making every plans for the arrival of the baby. And this will continue through the pregnancy process preparing the man and the woman to put everything in order knowing that the arrival of their baby will change many things. And talking about these changes is why “Paternity Leave should be s must to fathers”.

I see paternity leave as a need that should not have any debate because when a baby is born into a family, the first person to know is the father of the baby who sometimes might be inside the labour ward or might be hanging around the hospital ward till he gets the news of the delivery of his baby. The tension men go through this delivery time can be so much that it affects them for weeks, especially some delay labour that can last for days. This totally is enough reason for “Paternity Leave “ which will enable the man to concentrate once his wife is in the hospital and not thinking of work.

And from then on, everything changes. After the mother and child is home, the father of the baby is the one that will make his wife and baby settle properly at home, with the need to help them with initial supports, because the woman at this early stage of delivery can not involve in house chores, so the man is the only initial person to assist his wife.

Although the women are the ones that undergo so much painful stress during pregnancy and child delivery, I could say the men faces lots of challenges like the physical which most times starts affecting their 9:00 - 5;00, or there business for those who are into businesses because the arrival of a new baby is time consuming no matter how ever couples try. This shows its very demanding and therefore the men should get a paternity leave to enable function properly.

However, here in Nigeria 🇳🇬, a woman is entitled to six (6) months maternity leave after baby delivery as this will give her enough time to recuperate, take care of the baby and plan of how her baby will be safe when she resumes back in the office. But the men keep battling for paternity leave which is not supposed to be. Men are supposed to get paternity leave even if its just for one (1) month as this off work period will help them recover from both physical and mental streets, enabling them to also bond with their new born baby.
