Match 16 - Slovenia 1-1 Croatia
Slovenia have never won a game at the EURO's but with 70 mintus on the clock it looked like that was about to change. With 90 minutes it looked the same. Serbia had the posession, corners, and marginally more shots. Slovenia made one of theirs count. And in the 95th minute, so did Serbia. A flicked header bough joy and despair in equal measures. Though Slovenia retain a slight upper hand with two draws from two games.
Match 17 - England 1-1 Denmark
England could book themselves a second round berth with a win and when Kane got his tournament scoring underway in a stadium where he netted last season things were looking rosy. A quarter of an hour later Denmark had the temerity to equalise. When, finally, England made their substitutions Watkins almost restored the lead but almost was as close as it got and while England remain in prime place to qualify, this was a missed opportunity and looked as timid as the first game.
Match 18 - Spain 1-0 Italy
How did a game, with a French Spain team looking so quick and capable and an Austrian Italy team displaying such determination and gusto, end up being decided by an own goal? Still, Spain achieved their aim. Two games and two wins means they are through and Italy remain in good position to do the same. In another version of the match Spain would have had a couple of goals bend inside the post from their young strikers, but this is not that universe.
