Large Needlework Chest

It's a little while since I made this chest, but thought it was a good thing to show in @diyhub

A friend was looking for something to keep her needlework projects in and we had a chat about what sort of things she wanted and dimensions etc. Key to the discussions was that she did not have a lot of space.

The basic construction is from 12 millimetre plywood and it's about a metre by half-a-metre in size with a depth about 40cm.

One half of the chest has movable dividers so that part completed projects can be stored while the other half is an empty space which is storage for boxes and bags of needles, threads, etc. The removable tray on top is designed to allow a place for threads, needles, scissors, etc being used on a current project to be easily accessible. while also simple to tidy away.

The chest top has some firm foam so it can be used as somewhere to perch, and the owl cloth was sought out specially as my friend is a bit of an owl fancier.

You may have notices the chest sits off the floor. It's on wheels so that it can be moved around a room easily. Lifting it may be a two person job, especially when in use, but sliding it across the floor is a simpler task.

The chest was left without a finish, though it was sanded down to a 1000 grit so that it could be used with materials and no worry of threads snagging on rough edges.

There was much delight when the finished chest was presented as a gift.
