Your Cute Breakfast: Bite-Sized Cheesy Potato Cats!

Mashed potatoes, french fries, hash brown, baked potato, potato salad. We love potatoes in all of its forms!

Hello, everyone! For today, I will be showing you how to make cats out of potatoes! I believe we shouldn't just make foods to fill our stomachs and nourish our body. We also have to make it interesting and visually appealing especially for kids or for some, like me, who just wants something new to the eyes.

🧀 Cheesy Potato Cats 🐱

Cheesy Potato Cat is your cute and purrfect breakfast meal. Making it may take more time and process but you'll be surprised how few ingredients are needed to make a food something this cute!

Isn't potato amazing? I would usually just make french fries out of it or sometimes turn it to a creamy mashed potato. Good thing I've discovered about these cat-shaped potato balls which reminded me that potatoes are also pliable.

Now let's get into the ingredients!

📝 What You'll Need:

FOR BOILING THE POTATOES

  • 3 Medium-sized Potatoes
  • Water
  • Salt

FOR MAKING THE POTATO CATS

  • 3 Tbsp. Cornstarch
  • 3 Grams Garlic Powder
  • ¼ Tsp. Salt
  • ¼ Tsp. Black/White Ground Pepper
  • Cheese
  • Oil
  • Ketchup

👩🏻‍🍳 Time to Cook!!!

#1 First step is to boil the potatoes. Peel the potatoes and chop it into smaller parts so it softens faster. Now fill a pot with enough water, add a dash of salt, and bring to a boil. Then add in the potatoes.

Check the potatoes after 15 minutes if the potatoes are already soft. If not, continue boiling and check again if it's already soft enough to be mashed.

#2 Put the potatoes in a bowl and mash.

#3 Add cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well-combined. You can use a gloves to make the preparation more sanitary. In my case, I'm the only one eating it and so I can use my bare hands.

Also, you can see here on the photos below that I added the ingredients one at a time. That's just me being forgetful to add everything at once. Save your time and energy by adding them all together.

#4 Now get some of the mashed potatoes and flatten it on your palm.

#5 Get your cheese and place one at the center of your flatten mashed potato. It's up to you how big your cheese slices are, as long as you can wrap everything of it with the mashed potato.

Continue rolling until you make a ball. I know the last photo doesn't look like a ball. It's difficult to make a ball with one hand, you know. Lol.

#6 Now pinch some mashed potato for the ears.

#7 Attach them on top of the ball and mold it into cat ears.

Tadah! Make the rest of it and we're ready to fry them!

#8 Heat the pan and pour enough oil to fry the potato cats. You can also deep fry it. Using a slotted ladle, carefully transfer the potato cats one at a time into the pan. Fry until it has turned golden brown or its texture has turned crunchy.

#9 Transfer into a container layered with paper towel to drain the excess oil.

#10 Put them in your plate and use a toothpick to draw faces on the cats with ketchup. If you have those tools for bento-making then much better.

And we're done!

What's next??? Eat it, of course!!!

Meowlicious Breakfast! ✨️

Making this food isn't just easy and fun, this can also be a fun activity for those with kids around. Let them make and shape their own cats and even have them draw on it after! You won't just encourage them to enjoy eating their meals but also teach them how to cook.

This recipe makes 15 potato cats which is good for two to three servings. I also paired it with scrambled eggs and garlic fried rice. Yum!

Thanks for reading! 💚

Thank you! 💕 I don't have a molder for it. It's fun molding with hands anyway. 😆

This is so adorable! I think my son would enjoy this too, he’s really into dinosaurs right now, so maybe I’ll try shaping his into little dinos instead of cats. Thanks for the creative idea! 😊
