It's A Matcha Date!

Happy Green Day!!!

No, not the band but matcha! 🍵

Earlier this year, the morning the day I went to meet my college friends, I went out with Nat to check out the newly opened matcha cafe at the nearby city.

I've always wanted to try The Matcha Tokyo's drinks and desserts but everytime I go to Manila, I either lack time or the cafe is always full. I'm really happy we already have one here in the province and I got to visit it with Nat.

We were the only customer when we entered the cafe. I assumed we were the first one as it was only 10 in the morning and I've read that the store opens at 11. I was skeptical to enter because we're kind of too early but the staffs welcomed us so perhaps they're already open. Lol.

I've been wanting to try their mochi ice cream but the staff told me that it got sold out the other day. Oh maaannnn!!! We just ordered iced matcha latte and the hojicha oreo basque burnt cheesecake. I was curious of how hojicha tastes so I took that moment as the chance to finally try it.

The cafe looks and feels fancy. The cafe is well-lighted with natural light due to its huge windows. I also like the neutral colors of the cafe. It screams zen and relaxation.

The reason why I felt comfortable is probably due to the quiet surroundings because we're the only customer. Lmao. They also sell matcha tokyo merch, matcha powder, utensils for mixing matcha, tumblers, biscuits, etc.

Looking at the farther corner of the cafe, I saw an ice cream machine and I realized that I should've bought a drink with ice cream topping.

Not long enough, the pager buzzed and Nat stood to get our orders.

It says on the cup, 100% organic matcha. Okay, I'll trust it.

I like those deep green colors at the bottom and my expectations were already running high as I look closely at the drink.

Verdict?

Hmmm...I'd say the bitterness or "grass taste" is only minimal and it's not too sweet either. The taste it's just the right balance of matcha and milk.

Now, is that what a good matcha latte supposed to taste? I'm not sure either. Haha! Well, I can't say it it's a bad matcha latte so I'm putting it on my good matcha latte list. Would I order it again? Yeah, why not! But I think I like Tusjiri more.

Of course, I'm also going to have my own share of verdict for the hochija oreo basque burnt cheesecake. Whew! Such a long name for a small slice! Haha! If I would describe it, it's about the size of a fudgee bar. It was Nat who compared it with a fudgee bar and I can't help but laugh at it.

And for the verdict...Okay, I'm going to take a deep breath first. Lol.

I don't think the hojicha is for me. cries in the corner Sorry, hojicha lovers! But while I'm eating it, soil comes to my mind. Sorry! I should've just chosen the matcha version of it. I guess I was worse than Nat in describing this food! I only ate about one third and gave the rest to Nat.

One customer arrived when we're about to finish our food and another arrived as we left the cafe.

Despite my underwhelming experience with the cheesecake, I think this cafe is still good. I just chose a food that wasn't fit to my taste. Price-wise, it's a bit on the expensive side and not very student-friendly.

I like the ambiance and I'm still looking forward to try other drinks and desserts on their menu, especially the matcha mochi. I hope this branch here in the province gets enough customers as well so it doesn't close down because it's the first matcha cafe in the province.

Thanks so matcha for reading!
