Mexican Murals - Mazunte, Magical and Mystical [CCC's Street Art Contest #277]
There is a really cool mural, just about in the center of Mazunte (where Calle Rinconcito meets the main street Calle Principal and sort of continues as Calle Caoba). It is hard not to see, being a great display of color, artistic skills, and mystical symbolism. I was going to pot about it for weeks, but the light conditions were always unfavorable to take a good pic of it. Today, as I walked to the organic market, everything was perfect: no shadows or parked vehicles obscuring the image, except for the sign indicating parking in 20 meters.

But What Is It All About?
Yeah, a great question! On the left a sunburst is illuminating some quadratic building structures of a desert village (or at lest that's the first thing that came to my mind). Below that, a thick growth of plants along with turtles is giving off very coastal vibes. The entire right side starts looking very interesting. The two faces in the middle, dressed in prehispanic garb, probably of the elite or ceremonial style, almost seem like they were modeled on actual people. On the extreme right the four-eyed face suggests a divine being, and the surrounding cubical design looks most certainly like an explosion of psychedelic revelation. Very cool, Im loving it.
But my own subjective interpretation is all I can say about this awesome mural. Who's the artist behind it? When was it created, and what is it supposed to depict? Who are those two people in the middle? All of this remains a bit of a mystery. However, the murals in Mazunte tend to last relatively long, so chances are it'll be up for a while. As always, this post is part of the weekly CCC's Street Art Contest, and if you want to see more murals from Mexico (including Mazunte), take a look at my Mexican Murals post collection.
