Introduction

Our picks

This week should need no introduction with the great legend Johnny Cash the American Country singer and writer. With his charm and charisma and an obvious talent he dominated the scene in his hey day. I would be surprised if you have not heard of his songs but they are genius and his simplicity as a songwriter plays to his strengths. he might not be the most versatile musician but what he does, he does with a blind dedication with a nonchalance that makes him the best.

You can find out more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Cash

Song 1

Now this first song "Walk the line" is a classic and I picked this video as it shows how natural and effortless he is when playing and singing. I think lyrically this song sums him up a bit as a person, walking the line at all times and from reading about him and watching him he walked a very thin lines in his life at times.

Song 2

I could not do this without mention this absolute classic of a song with an infectious riff and singable melodies. This song shows him at his best as a songwriter. yet again there is a casual easiness about his performance and flow. The best people just make it seem easy and casual. Johnny Cash does just that in all his songs and performances.

Song 3

In 2002 he did an album of songs and covers just before he died. Listening to it now again it is so powerful, a cover of a NIN song you can hear his emotion in every word. This is perhaps one of the most powerful performances of raw soul I have ever heard. I can think of only one other example that has this feel where you can hear the regret, the pain and the hurt in the vocals and that was Nirvarna Unplugged performance for MTV. However this is a masterpiece from a master at the end of his life. It might not be a happy listen but you will not hear a song sung with such meaning easily.

We love all types of music and hope that you like our choices!

Big up all the music in the world and the joy we get making and listening to it!

One of the great voices. The Man in Black was a huge star in his time. Hurt gets me every time.

I have sung Folsom Prison Blues plenty of times, but I do mix in a bit of Pinball Wizard :)

The last Song strongly reminds me of a singer from the (early ?) 90s ... Dark voice, dark hair... Not the kind of charts music. Hmmmm. Cant remember the name 😅 somewhere I have an old music casett 😅 come back when I found it

Edit:
Nick Cave 🤦
