► About

Well maybe I am doing this in homage to the late and great David Lynch but also because I really love this version of the classic Frank herbert books which I have read many times and had read before I saw the film. Maybe I am also doing it because imo the new films released are not very good and do the books no justice and the music is terrible on them!

► What I loved about it

I mean its a classic story done to the best of its visual ability of 1984. it was a grand undertaking at the time and while it was not perfect it is still bold and verging on genius.

► How it influenced me

I am not sure how it influenced me but I would watch that film again today. I guess Lynch got it right for me in how I imagined the characters to be when I initially read the book. I think also the mystery of the Spice, while it gives you powers those powers also have an aura of mystery about them, and come on who would not want a shield and a giant worm right?

► Any scene that still pops into your mind.

The Baron Harkonen always got me with his scenes fwith Sting, I mean a film with Sting in...what could go wrong!

► Performance of the actors/actress that left an impression.

Come on with these 3 on the cast list....Patrick, Max and Sting.....

► Summary

This is not perfect by any means but the girtty imperfections to me make it a much more honest making of the classic book. I would much rather you gave me this for Christmas than the modern and beautiful version made a few years ago, with its visual mastery over shadowing what is maybe one of the greatest Sci fi worlds ever created. This is a film that keeps it real exactly what the Star Wars prequals managed not to do.....this is a film where I would argue that creativity and craftsmanship was at its highest point before computers took over....this is a film with the heart and soul of human endeavour rather than the pixels of computers.

Rating
9 out of 10 SUB masks

Now go watch it or listen to it!

Big up the films

love

I watched it again fairly recently and still enjoyed it. It's a long time since I read the books, so I don't remember what was changed. I do know that it's not all as Lynch wanted. I heard he nearly got Return of the Jedi. That would have been a different movie.

I've seen the first half of the new one and I knew exactly what the next scene would be. That version seems a bit more earnest and maybe less fun.

80s scifi has a certain feel about it. The effects technology was developing, but was nothing like they have now. The music on some was a bit cheesy. I think Star Wars actually ages pretty well.

Star wars still looks good for sure! I did not like the new ones at all and the music irritated me a lot lol

Great choice. I would say the older Dune was such a classic but seems very unpopular outside of Finch fans or sci fi geeks. But I loved it. Really hard to get into the new Dune.
