Our visit to Bali begins today. We wake up at 6:30 to have breakfast and be ready by 7. Our new van with new driver are on time and we leave immediately, just the time to store our bags.

The first stop is to reach the harbour to take the ferry. We expected almost an hour on the road and then having to wait at least 45 minutes for the ferry to leave, but instead we took much less. August 17 in Indonesia is Independence Day for which many activities are closed. This probably led to far fewer people around and therefore less traffic which reduced our travel times.

Arrived at the harbour, a stroke of luck: we are immediately boarded on the ferry. We save at least 45 minutes and go up to the last bridge to make the journey in the open air.

On arrival, Bali immediately shows up differently. Narrower streets, more typical and well-kept constructions. Lush vegetation like in Java but more flowers and colours.

Our first stop is Handara Gate, an ancient stone door that is now very famous on social media as a place to take pictures of yourself. There is another one that is larger and more famous but also much more distant to reach that we could not include in the itinerary.

Oggi inizia la nostra visita a Bali. Ci svegliamo alle 6:30 per fare colazione ed essere pronti per le 7. Il nostro nuovo van con nuovo autista sono puntuali e partiamo subito, giusto il tempo di riporre i nostri bagagli.

La prima tappa è raggiungere il porto per prendere il traghetto. Ci aspettavamo quasi un’ora di strada e poi dover aspettare almeno 45 minuti perché il traghetto partisse, ma invece ci abbiamo messo molto meno. Il 17 Agosto in Indonesia è la festa dell’indipendenza per cui molte attività sono chiuse. Questo probabilmente ha portato a molte meno persone in giro e quindi meno traffico che ha ridotto i nostri tempi di percorrenza.

Arrivati al porto, un colpo di fortuna: ci imbarcano immediatamente sul traghetto. Risparmiamo almeno 45 minuti e saliamo all’ultimo ponte per fare il tragitto all’aria aperta.

All’arrivo Bali si presenta fin da subito diversa. Strade più strette, costruzioni più tipiche e curate. Vegetazione rigogliosa come a Giava ma più fiori e colori.

La nostra prima tappa è Handara Gate, una antica porta in pietra oggi molto famosa sui social come luogo per scattarti delle foto. Ne esiste un’altra più grande e famosa ma anche molto più distante da raggiungere che non abbiamo potuto includere nell’itinerario.
