Winter fungi finds
I stopped to take a few fungi photos this week.
I'm not great on fungi identification but I think this is false turkeytail.
There was quite a bit of this fungi growing on some downed logs. The coloration varied.
Since I had a few good fungi photos, I stopped and took a few more.
Interesting color and texture.
No idea on identification other than there appears to be two different types of fungus growing here.
I also stopped at this little colony of puffballs that I remembered from the summer. They all have already puffed but are holding their form surprisingly well this far into a wet winter.

Is it possible to calculate their age by these rims on mushrooms?
🤔 I had never thought of this. I supposed they do indicate growing cycles but I don't think one cycle equals one year necessarily.
Always incredible shapes in the world of mushrooms.
Have a great weekend
And colors 🙂 I was checking some things in the woods before the last storm and kept stepping over the orange false turkeytail. Finally I said wait a minute I should take a couple of photos lol
