Springtime blooms and yard work...

daffodil

Springtime in Vermont is a wonderful time of the year.

Flowers bursting through the drab, grayness of winter.

Its like the saying "absence makes the heart grow fonder", you really appreciate the Spring after a long, hard winter.

Apple

Our apple trees are starting to bloom 🙂

Apple

We have planted 10 apple trees over the last 4 years.

Apple

We plant bare root trees which are very small (and inexpensive 😉) but the downside is they take several years to get going. Well they grow vigorously from the start but the apples take several years. They are 3 - 5 ft tall when planted. Some are just whips. Which is just what it sounds like, a single twig, no branches.

Rock pickup

Spring also starts with a long to-do list of things you think about wanting to do over the winter. High on our list was redoing some of our beds to keep the weeds out.

Landscaping Fabric

We wanted to do it right with landscaping fabric to block out the weeds covered with non-organic material (rocks lol).

Walkway

We also did the pathway up to our front door. It was rainy when we did this project and the rocks we picked up for the job were muddy. It actually looks better now, the continuing rain has washed the rocks clean 🙂

Spring! Can't wait for you to have a crop of apples!
Everything Iooks great. I love the walkway to the front door. It looks very welcoming between the birch trees. I'm imagining it with flowers planted on each side.

Thanks. There are blackeyed susans along the walkway but they are struggling. The beds are on the north side of our two story house and don't get good sun. We are re-thinking that bed. Probably need to go towards hostas, things like that.

Can't wait to see the colorful flowers that will grow on the side of the path. For the apple trees, hopefully the flowers will turn into delicious fruits.

Thanks. Since the apple trees are still kinda small, we help them pollinate. Bringing over flowers from a crabapple tree. Can't count on the bees yet. Not enough blooms to attract them.

(Edited)

I'm going to grow some potatoes this year. I tried a couple years back and made the mistake of planting in hard ground. Which is especially foolish of me considering it wasn't my first rodeo lol.
