Mushroom
Found some photogenic mushrooms on a Labor Day hike yesterday. They appear to be Pholiota Squarrosoides. More info can be found on these two links mushroomexpert wikipedia
Lovely little grouping of mushrooms all in good shape.
Growing on a downed tree with some moss and ferns for shade.
Worth a quick break for some photos.
We were hiking with some neighbors in the Green Mountains. Definitely an eastern US hardwood forest so that also reinforces the mushroom ID. Beautiful day for a hike.

LOVELY! Especially those 3, as if they were fighting to stand firm after growing from the same place. :)

I've read that those pholiotas are toxic and edible in different guides. I've only been able to find them higher up in Wisconsin.
We were up at about 1500 ft along Chandler Ridge trail going into Silver Lake.
