Australia scenes

Sunrise

My son is in Australia. I am living vicariously through him. So I thought I might as well post vicariously also πŸ˜…

Outback

He is on a herping trip with a friend.

Gum trees

Herping is the act of searching for amphibians or reptiles. The term, often used by professional and amateur herpetologists, comes from the word "herp", which comes from the same Greek root as herpetology, herpet-, meaning "creeping". The term herp is a shorthand used to refer to the two classes of ectothermic tetrapods (i.e., amphibians and reptiles). - wikipedia

the Road

A lot of herping consists of cruising. Driving the right places at the right time and at the right temperatures to find herps. Often times at night which is why there are lots of sunrise shots. Done at night... all night until dawn.

Uluru

They occasionally visit or at least drive by some famous sites too. Like Uluru. More herp pictures will follow plus he is coming home for Christmas so I'm sure I can get a full photo download if I want.

All images are taken by a family member but not me and used with permission.

Oh I can imagine… enjoy Australia through your son’s eyes.

Never heard of that word. Interesting.
Looking forward to more photos from his visit. 😁
Enjoy him being home for Christmas πŸŽ„

I can imagine it would be similar. Parts of the US are like that too. I just came back from Kansas that has lots of flat, empty space. No pics from that trip though πŸ™

This is my first time learning about herping.
It's really an interesting one.
Wonderful cool photos.

I believe it is going to be an adventurous trip for him.

As I was reading, what is herping.

The very next line I find out.

They say we learn something new everyday, that word is it for me today.

Great shots, my favorite is the third.

Still want to go visit there someday, it will probably remind me of Arizona with all the snakes hanging around everywhere.
