The Poor Masses

Given the current state of the world which has been in a particular way for a very long time, whenever the leaders of nations make a decision and actually enforce it, the citizens always suffer. What is so disturbing is that it is never anything good that ends up getting to the citizens most of the time, it is always the extreme cases of suffering and death that citizens have to endure until the leaders in power play their diplomatic games to their satisfaction.

A very good example is when the president of Nigeria redesigned the Naira and then gave a deadline for all citizens to discard the old Naira notes because once the deadline elapses, the old Naira notes will cease to be recognized as the official legal tender of the country. I am very sure that there are a million ways that the people in power, especially those who passed the bill into law could have easily made sure that the new notes were made accessible and in abundant quantities to the masses without any hitches but the government chose to make the citizens suffer for it.

That period of time is not one that I like to remember because it created horrible situations for people that could have easily been prevented by the government. Many people were bankrupt because the Naira notes that they had in abundance were deemed useless and even petty traders and bus drivers would rain insults on anyone who dared to pay for a service or goods with the banned Naira notes.

It made me wonder why the old Naira notes were being banned like they were illegal when they still had the official government stamp on them. People were mandated to submit their old Naira notes to the nearest bank and collect the equivalent in the new Naira notes but that itself was another horrible experience. Banks were not being given the right amount of notes that'd be enough for everyone and as a result, to discourage the crowd they'd close their doors and prevent customers from entering in a feeble attempt to manage the surging crowd.

It was during all this that it became compulsory to be savvy with online transactions or risk starving with your family, even though you had lots of cash lying around the house totally useless. The supposed politicians that promised to have the interests of the people at heart once they're voted in paid no mind and news of huge amounts of embezzled funds being dug up and seeing the light of day only added to the stress of the masses.

Fortunately, it only lasted for a few weeks before the head of the Central Bank Of Nigeria(CBN) was suddenly placed on a hot seat and was called to the court, which was according to what I read on a newspaper site and the President of Nigeria later lifted the ban on the old Naira notes and the deadline. The joy and relief that everyone felt was massive and it was well deserved too because of all the horrors experienced during those few weeks. The lifting of the ban permitted life to go on as it was before the ban was put into effect and people began to accept the old Naira notes as the official legal tender once again, which it has always been.

Over time, we began to see less and less of the old Naira notes because they were left to fade out naturally rather than force everyone into penury because of one agenda or the other that will definitely not benefit the masses. Today, I don't think I have seen anyone with the old Naira notes which means that the government has successfully claimed all of the old Naira notes and disbursed and continues to disburse the new notes which everyone uses now.

It could have been an easy process initially if they only chose to actually do it in a way that would benefit the masses.

When it comes to celebrities facing backlash because they are citizens of an attacking country, the masses fail to realize that at the end of the day, celebrities work in the entertainment industry and the entertainment industry is very far from the government offices where they do the actual running of a nation. I know about celebrities that are absolutely hated just because they are citizens of an attacking country and they obviously cannot do anything about it because at the end of the day, they're just citizens as well and the only difference between them and the rest of the masses is that they appear on the big screens often. Celebrities shouldn't be blamed for something that their country is doing because there's absolutely nothing they can do seeing as they're not even the actual ones giving the orders to attack and they also have their reputations to uphold in order to keep the money coming into the bank. Making the mistake of doing something that may even be seen as treason in their country just because the public said so in the comment section and probably videos on Instagram and TikTok and Facebook will only land such a celebrity in jeopardy.

The only people to blame for the policies that cause citizens to suffer are those who put those policies in effect.
