We live in a modern world in which everything in our lives is getting digitized by the day. With each passing day, we hear about new inventions and how the aim of such inventions is to make life easier for the masses, we hear of new social applications with special purposes all aimed at getting the public to get familiar with the applications.

Seeing as we live in the digital age where socializing has been made very easy for people of the world to interact with each other within seconds from different points of the world, it has become a norm for people to put their whole life out there on the internet for the whole world to see.

It has now become a form of entertainment for people who have the excess means to do so, to put their entire life on the internet for everyone to see and the public eye will definitely be interested in seeing what goes on in the “private" lives of these people.

Social media is not being used for entertainment alone as millions of businesses all around the world run to the internet and the media for socializing as a tool to help them push their business forward and even to recruit new employees. These days, the level of unemployed individuals that go around from organization to organization in search of a job has been drastically reduced because of the prevalence of the internet and social media and how helpful it is.

Whenever companies or organizations have vacancies that need to be occupied, they make use of social media apps and websites to push their messages forward. Popular apps like LinkedIn, Upwork, Fiverr and so many others are well known to be the hub for companies and organizations looking to recruit workers and workers looking to get a job in any company.

Social media has made job hunting easier and seeing as companies and organizations are allowed to have an active social media presence, so should employees too.

I do not believe that just because an employer is looking to recruit someone for a job in whatever company doesn't mean that said employer has the right to treat them without dignity.

Social media accounts are personal which I believe has no relation whatsoever to the job one does. Unless one decides to create content about the job which still doesn't justify an employer demanding exclusive rights to an individual’s personal social media account. It's an invasion of privacy because one's work life is totally different from one's life in the media.

Such an action will only prove how extremely controlling the employer will be and how little the employer cares for the employees. It means that as long as the employees work for the organization, they're not entitled to their private lives and such work environments do not usually encourage growth and development.

I want to believe that when the time comes for me to have my dream job, I will not have to forfeit my job because of some unrealistic policy that the employer will have fixed regarding new employees because I know that if I were to choose between my dream job and surrendering my social media handle to my employer, I will be forced to think about what else I might be obligated to submit ”for the good of the company" .

Because such strange policies, I'm sure, do not stop at one and you would not know just how terrible a workplace it will be until you are fully in with no choice. Once you get properly integrated in the work environment, you would discover that your social media account is not just the only private thing that will be required of you to submit.

So, if I had to choose between my dream job and surrendering my private rights over to an employer, I would choose my freedom and privacy.

I find it very unnecessary for employers to request for access to social media accounts of employees. It's an attempt to enslave employees in most cases.

True. Most of the time the employers do not have a very good reason for such a request and it never ends well.
Thank you for your feedback.
