Introduction
This week's theme is art. Art can evoke a range of emotions and profound, often unpredictable, reactions in a person. It can provoke joy, sadness, awareness; in short, the artist is the one who can convey emotions. Art is not univocal, but multifaceted, which is why I will choose three artists who express emotions through art, but in three different ways.
Below, we take a detailed look at the three artists I love most.
Sculpture - Igor Mitoraj

Igor Mitoraj was one of the most celebrated Polish sculptors of the 20th century, known for his monumental works in bronze and marble that reinterpret ancient classical traditions with a postmodern twist. As far as I'm concerned, I have no doubt who the best sculptor in the world is... for me, it's Igor Mitoraj. Okay, okay, now you'll say I'm exaggerating... I reply that we're not all the same. His imperfect works, for me, are perfection.
Are Mitoraj's sculptures incomplete? Absolutely not. Mitoraj's sculptures capture the perfection of classical sculptures and then disappear to blend into their surroundings.
From the attached photos, you can see how, at the point where the solid material of the sculpture ends, the external environment intervenes to complete the work. The beauty of some of Mitoraj's works is so vast that they fill the entire space and overwhelm the viewer.
Photography - Sebastião Salgado

Let's move on to photography. There are photographers of exceptional skill and professionalism in the world, but the one I adore is Sebastião Salgado, who died this year in Paris on May 23, 2025. Salgado was a Brazilian photographer and photojournalist. A humanist photojournalist, he is considered one of the greatest photographers of the 20th and 21st centuries. He was nominated several times for Photographer of the Year. He traveled the world, to inaccessible areas, some of which had never been reached by man, to photograph the impossible or show the world what the mass media didn't allow to see. His black-and-white images capture with poetic power and raw reality, human dignity, and social, environmental, and economic injustice.
His photographs almost "kill" you. Then, once you understand what that photograph represents and how much effort the photographer put into taking that picture and being there in that moment, you stop thinking about the photograph and are completely immersed in the message it conveys.
Just look at the photo on the right, where there's a father carrying his nearly starving son to the collection point in the hope of finding food for his child. The father has the look of someone who lacks energy but has no intention of giving up. To take that photo, Salgado immersed himself in that reality, putting himself at risk.
Painting - Renato Massari

I love painting as an art form, although we can now say that its importance within the entire art world is less significant than it was many years ago. I adore painters like William Turner (1775–1851), Claude Monet (1840–1926), Salvador Dalí, René Magritte (1898–1967), John Constable (1776–1837), and Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944). But there is one painter I appreciate more than all the others, for a very simple reason, which I'll explain later.
The painter who evokes strong emotions in me is a certain Renato Massari. His worlds are dreamlike, the kind one wishes one could stay in or never forget.
In 1975, Antenore Campi wrote that in Massari's works there was an intimate return to the idyll that modern life tries to erase, but in his paintings one can see the search for a world not entirely lost.
Nino Scalisi wrote in 1978 that Massari's colors were applied to the canvas like caresses. He wrote that his figures were shaped with such intentionality that they immersed the viewer in his very poetic, fairy-tale world, so wonderful and dreamlike.
Now let's get to the point: why do I appreciate this painter? Because I know his story and his art in detail, as he is my father.
Conclusions
I believe art is the most complete and direct means of conveying emotion. My favorite sculptor is certainly the Polish artist Igor Mitoraj; his unfinished classical works have always captured my attention. Art and photography, for me, find their greatest expression in the work of Sebastião Salgado, while as for painting, I have always been captivated by the works of my father, Renato Massari.

Introduzione
Il tema di questa settimana è l’arte. L’arte può suscitare in una persona un ventaglio di emozioni e di reazioni profonde, spesso imprevedibili. Può provocare gioia, tristezza, consapevolezza, insomma l’artista è quello che riesce a trasmettere emozioni. L’arte non è univoca, ma multiforme, per questo motivo io sceglierò tre artisti che esprimono emozioni attraverso l’arte ma in tre modi diversi.
Qui di seguito vediamo nel dettaglio i tre artisti che amo di più.
La scultura - Igor Mitoraj

Igor Mitoraj è stato uno dei più celebri scultori polacchi del XX secolo, noto per le sue monumentali opere in bronzo e marmo che reinterpretano l'antica tradizione classica con un tocco postmoderno. Per quanto mi riguarda, non ho dubbi su chi possa essere il miglior scultore del mondo… per me è Igor Mitoraj. Ok, ok, adesso direte che sono esagerato… io rispondo che non siamo tutti uguali. Le sue opere imperfette per me sono la perfezione.
Le sculture di Mitoraj sono incomplete? No assolutamente, le sculture di Mitoraj riprendono la perfezione delle sculture classiche e poi spariscono per fondersi con l’ambiente che le circonda.
Dalle foto allegate si può notare come, nel punto in cui termina il materiale solido della scultura, l’ambiente esterno intervenga a completare l’opera. La bellezza di alcune opere di Mitoraj è così vasta, che riempiono tutto l’ambiente e travolge chi le guarda.

Passiamo alla fotografia. Al mondo ci sono fotografi di eccezionale bravura e professionalità, ma quello che adoro è Sebastião Salgado, morto proprio quest’anno a Parigi il 23 maggio 2025. Salgado è stato un fotografo e fotoreporter brasiliano. Fotoreporter umanista, è considerato uno tra i maggiori fotografi dei secoli XX e XXI. Egli è stato più volte candidato al premio di fotografo dell'anno. Andava in giro per il mondo in zone impervie alcune anche mai attraversate dall’uomo per fotografare l’impossibile o mostrare al mondo ciò che i mass media non facevano vedere. Le sue immagini in bianco e nero catturano con potenza poetica e cruda realtà, la dignità umana, le ingiustizie sociali, ambientali ed economiche..
Le sue fotografie quasi ti “uccidono”, poi se uno viene a conoscenza di cosa rappresenta quella fotografia e quanta fatica ha fatto il fotografo per arrivare a fare quella foto ed essere lì in quel momento, uno smette di pensare alla fotografia, ma viene sbalzato totalmente dentro al messaggio che porta.
Guardate solo la foto di destra dove c’è un padre che porta il figlio quasi morto di fame al punto di raccolta con la speranza di trovare cibo per il suo bambino. Il padre ha lo sguardo di chi non ha energie ma di chi non ha nessuna intenzione di arrendersi. Per fare quella foto Salgado si è immerso in quella realtà mettendo a rischio se stesso.
La pittura - Massari Renato

Adoro la pittura come forma d’arte, anche se ormai possiamo dire che ha un'importanza più ristretta nell’interno campo dell’arte rispetto a tanti anni fa. Adoro pittori come William Turner (1775–1851), Claude Monet (1840–1926), Salvador Dalí, René Magritte (1898-1967), John Constable (1776–1837), Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944). Ma c’è un pittore che apprezzo più di tutti gli altri, per un motivo molto semplice, ma lo spiegherò più avanti.
Il pittore che suscita in me emozioni forti è un certo Renato Massari. I suoi mondo sono onirici, sono quelli in cui uno o una vorrebbe stare o vorrebbe non dimenticare.
Nel 1975 Antenore Campi scrisse che nelle opere di Massari c’era un intimo ritorno idilliaco che la vita moderna prova cancellare, ma nei suoi dipinti si nota la ricerca di un mondo non del tutto perduto.
Nino Scalisi nel 1978 scrisse che i colori di Massari erano dati sulla tela come carezze. Scrisse che le sue figure erano plasmate con una intenzionalità tale da immergere chi guardava proprio in quel suo mondo poetico-fiabesco tanto meraviglioso e onirico.
Ora veniamo al dunque, perché apprezzo questo pittore? Perché conosco la sua storia e la sua arte nei dettagli, in quanto è mio padre.
Conclusioni
Ritengo l'arte il vettore più completo e diretto per trasmettere emozioni. Il mio scultore preferito è certamente il polacco Igor Mitoraj, le sue opere classiche incomplete catturano da sempre la mia attenzione. L'arte e la fotografia per me trovano massima espressione nel lavoro di Sebastião Salgado, mentre per la pittura, io sono sempre stato catturato dai dipinti di mio padre, Renato Massari.

Una bella e interessante selezione e da padre apprezzo molto la tua terza scelta perchè i lavori di tuo padre sono molto belli ma è bello anche che un figlio scelga il proprio padre come riferimento artistico oltre che sentimentale

Grazie Liberty per il tuo commento. Se le sculture di Mitoraj che mi piacciono costassero molto meno di un milione di euor ne comprerei una. hihihi. Salgado non lo conoscono in molti, ma le sue fotografie sono qualcosa di devastante... per quanto riguarda mio padre, poteva fare anche il salto, era unico, dove andava vinceva o arrivaav secondo, ma ad alti livelli si doveva scendere a dei compromessi e non li ha mai accettati... ha fatto bene o ha fatto male? Secondo me ha fatto quello che doveva fare, cioè quello che si sentiva di fare. A volte non è facile comprendere i suoi dipinti come quello che lascio qui di seguito. Le tre colombe simboleggiano la libertà, i fili che hanno in bocca sono le trame delle verità nascoste, il rosso è la luce che cercano di portare in quel cielo buio. Queste cose non si comprendono quando si guardano alcuni dipinti di mio padre, ma si percepisce di essere davanti ad un messaggio onirico.
Devo dire che sono artisti che non conosco, delle belle scelte e complimenti a tuo padre per le opere, senza dubbio molto belle, delle 3 che hai messo mi piace particolarmente quella con i 3 uccelli

Visto che sei padre come me, ti racconto quanto segue.
C'è un dipinto di mio padre che ho sempre visto, fin da piccolo, ma ad una certa età questo dipinto mi ha dato un'emozione diversa e più intensa... il dipinto è il seguente (mostrato anche nel post)
Questo dipinto esposto in un salone e visto da lontano sembra un paesaggio onirico con un grande sole ed una collina sul mare, poi più ci si avvicina e più si comprende che quella collina è un abbraccio di due genitori che proteggono un figlio/figlia.
e più ci si avvicina, più si nota che i capelli dei genitori sono le nostre radici. (purtroppo la foto non ha una buona definizione)
Noto anche, e non so se sbaglio nell'interpretazione, che il figlio/a ha in mano un piccolo albero e lo sta andando a piantare sotto sul bosco, come a dire che poi toccherà anche a lui contribuire e portare avanti tutto

Thank you for your comment. Photographer Salgado is known for his predominant use of black and white, powerful compositions, and strong lighting and contrast. His images often document the human condition—work, migration, poverty—but always with a strong aesthetic component and the dignity of his subjects. I consider him the most important photographer in the world, but that's just my personal opinion. !WINE

Ciao Delilha, certo che mi ricordo quando abbiamo collaborato per trasformare un dipinto di Renato Massari in vettoriale!!! Impossibile dimenticare. Avevi fatto un capolavoro digitale. Mi hai fatto pensare e potrei effettivamente anche fare un post a riguardo proprio di questa collaborazione. Per quanto riguarda Salgado, lo ritengo il fotografo più grande di tutti i tempi. Per effettuare alcuni scatti ha rischiato la propria vita, ma quello che più impressiona è tutta la trasformazione del suo lavoro. Inizialmente cercava di mostrare situazioni sociali scomode che non venivano mai alla luce, cioè che non venivano mai raccontate dall’informazione. Le sue fotografie bianche nero risaltavano queste condizioni a volte drammatiche, poi quando non riusciva più a sopportare quel peso ha iniziato a fotografare paesaggi inesplorati, alcuni posti che lui ha fotografato non erano mai stati visti di persona dall’uomo. Riguarda la foto di sinistra nel riquadro che ho dedicato a lui. È un posto in mezzo ai ghiacciai che non sembra nemmeno vero, sembra un posto di un altro pianeta. !LUV
Hai visto il documentario "il sale della terra"? Se non l'hai visto, ti consiglio assolutamente di recuperarlo. Io ebbi la fortuna di vederlo alla cineteca di Bologna, qualche anno fa, e mi è rimasto molto impresso! 😊 la vita di questo fotografo è semplicemente impressionante!
Confermo che ho visto “il sale della terra”, concordo con quanto hai scritto. Quel film documentario è molto importante. Secondo me sarebbe da mostrare nelle scuole. Peccato che siano in tanti a non conoscerne l’esistenza. Comuque, nei siti web che recensiscono film, il sale della terra solitamente è ritenuto uno dei film documentari migliori di tutti i tempi. !WINE

But I also like to look at paintings and try to find meaning in them by thinking about what the artist wants to express in their work.
Per quanto riguarda la fotografia in particolare, purtroppo sta venendo soppiantata dai cari e amati cellulari. Il fotografo di professione è infatti una delle prime figure intellettuali che sta subendo una selvaggia sostituzione da parte delle IA. E il padre di una mia conoscente (fotografo di eventi quali matrimoni) ne sa qualcosa...
