Running for my Life by Dragos Roua
You may recognise the author name as @dragosroua is one of the Hive OGs, although he just returned after a couple of years away.
He has mentioned his running here, but this book is a fuller account of how he got into running to help cope with depression and then went on to do some massive runs. He started at a similar age to me (40s), but has done much more. My longest runs have been around 25km, but he has done some over 200km! That is obviously hard on the body and also on the mind.
I bought his book a while back, but only just read it whilst I was travelling. At 180 pages it is not too long a read as the print is large.
He talks about training and details his experience of different events with some thoughts on what he could have done better. There is a long account of running the 211km Ultrabalaton in Hungary that is gruelling enough just to read.
I found this an inspirational book even if I do not aspire to be an ultramarathoner. I have done a few half marathons and may attempt a whole one some day, but I have to see what my body can cope with.
I hope to hear more from Dragos on how his running is going, but he writes on various other topics too. Check him out.

Wow, that's pretty impressive! I can't go three minutes at 4 MPH without running out of breath, so I don't have any hope of achieving this!
I think a lot of it is mental. You have to believe in what you could do.
Maybe... I know my lung capacity is diminished since I had Covid though.
If running is good for depression, I should try it instead walking.
Walking could be good too. We are all different.
Such a beautiful book from your summary. I love reading books or watching movies that are based on people's true life stories
Ultras are fun in their own grueling way. My longest was 42 miles from downtown Spokane to the top of Mt Spokane which was all road but the 50K trail run around Riverside park was the most fun. Those were years ago though and I really need to get the motivation back for regular training.
Sounds like a lot of climbing. I will keep testing myself to see what is possible, but ultimately it's for fun.

I definitely remember him, didn't know he published a book too and that sounds like such an inspirational book.
He's written a few on other topics.
It seems like a good option to read about other people's life experiences. It has helped me on many occasions. If I have the opportunity, I will definitely read it. Greetings from Venezuela.
200km? In one day? I knew he ran long distances, but didn't know what an ultra-marathon meant. I thought maybe something like 60km, which is already very long.
An ultra is anything over a marathon, but some are much longer. It's amazing what people can do.
Huh, I did not train for a while as I am waiting for a surgery. I cannot wait to recover, but there are some months to wait to do it first. Then to work on recovery.
It can be a good self-improvement book, those are very good for the muscles and the heart.
I will take this opportunity to greet you and wish you a very good day.
