The violin can be such an expressive instrument and amplifying it brings more power, as well as the potential for effects.
I saw this guy on TV many years ago. He made me realise what was possible.

Wow, it's fantastic! The first time I saw someone who play the electric violin was years ago. Here in my city there was a folk band called Lou Dalfin from a northern region of Italy. They use to mix electric and not electric instruments and it was really an impressive (and happy!) concert.
