Proof of Brian hits another milestone
About three years ago I decided to exercise my Hive programming skills by writing a bot. I had noticed people mis-spelling the #proofofbrain tag and so @proofofbrian was born.
All it does is to look for any of a set of mis-spellings of the tag and then it leaves a comment notifying the user of their mistake. The comment will have a picture of a Brian that I link in from Wikimedia. It will give them a vote too, but the value is tiny. It keeps a list of who has been notified so that they will not be told again.
The bot reached 500 notifications in late 2022 and 850 in July this year. It is slowing down as it only reached 900 a few days ago. Any guesses on when it will reach 1000? It will much depend on how many more users Hive gets as a lot of the active ones who might have used the tag have already been visited. I think at least one person got the tag wrong deliberately to get a comment.
The bot is written in Python and uses the beem library to access Hive. That is not being maintained, so I may look at using something else.
The bot is not running 24/7 as I run it on my main PC when using it. I did try setting up beem on a Raspberry Pi, but it failed at the time. I need to look at that again when I have time.
This is all just a bit of fun with no intention to earn from it, but others can use the code to adapt to their needs. The actual processing is only a few lines. I think we need more examples of coding around Hive. You can do all sorts of things with this vast set of data.
I will give a bigger vote to whoever can name all the Brians above.
I do use the #proofofbrain tag myself and have not been caught out by my own bot, yet.

People are still using that tag?
Yep. It gets you something. I see posts with a load of token tags, but I have little idea what they get you. It's likely to be tiny fractions of a cent. I just use the tag out of habit and earn a little from curation. I don't bother with multiple voting accounts.
I do. I even post in their community sometimes. Don't know how active it is, but sounds appropriate at times.

They have a diesel pool paired with SWAP.BTC so that is enough to keep them alive, if nothing else.

I have collected a lot of them and getting small amount of Hive rewards weekly for delegating them.

Cool use case for a bot! I see the Beach Boys guy and the AC/DC guy, maybe the Queen guy and the Roxy Music guy as well. Don't know the others off hand.
I have several bots running with javascript and HTML on my always on Raspberry Pi's browser. I find it to be a good way to keep keys under my control. I have thought about releasing a Hive Programming post or series of posts but I'm a bit concerned about someone using automation in an undesirable way. We have enough spam and misuse on here already. But if you ever switch to js and have questions about hive.js, ssc.js (hive-engine) or axios.js (utility functions) feel free to hit me up and I'll try to help.

We do have some spammy bots already. The cost of posting is still pretty low. I don't think we have attracted the serious spammers yet.
I will probably stick with Python for now. I have other scripts to process data for my posts with country lists. We need good libraries so people can create more cool tools. There are some tutorials out there. They need to be easy to find.

I always liked the idea behind this bot. It was amazing that the tag was so badly misspelt!
I probably miss some cases, but it gets tricky to find them all. Examples are poofofbrain, proooffbrain and roofofbrain. People use the various token tags, but the rewards are tiny. Better off getting some human followers.
