Hitchin Hive Meetup: UK Hivers check your diary!

avatar

I have been saying for a while that I would organise a meetup and I am finally setting a date.

The meetup will be in Hitchin starting at the train station at 11am on Sunday 23rd July 2023. There is lots of parking at the station or you can get a direct train from London, Cambridge or Peterborough. It is conveniently two stops from where I live.

Hitchin Arcade

The plan is that we will take a walk of an hour or two that will be through some countryside and then into the historic town centre where we can get refreshments at one of the many cafes. Some of the walk will be on the HOOP (Hitchin Outer Orbital Path) passing the site of a Roman villa. There should be plenty of photography opportunities as well as the chance to socialise. I have had help from @daniellemurray in planning the route.

If anyone is not feeling up to the walk they can meet us in town around 1pm. The location will be confirmed later. We can hang out there as long as people want to. It is about a 20 minute walk back to the station.

There are also prizes!

Prizes

I have two signed copies of this graphic novel by @katharsisdrill to give away to random attendees. You just have to turn up to have a chance of winning one.

I cannot guarantee the weather, but I would suggest being equipped with sturdy shoes, a hat, sun cream and a water bottle. Snacks are optional.

The last time I did an event like this was four years ago in Arlesey. That time there were three of us with @adetorrent and @molometer joining me. I would hope for a few more this time and that some people who have not yet joined Hive will come along. They can grill the experienced Hivers to learn about it.

Please let me know if you think you can come.

I expect some people cannot get there, but you can always organise your own event. All you need is to set a date and a location. Let me know and I will publicise it.

Me too. Never know how it will go, but I'm sure we can have a nice outing anyway.

I have a lot going on in July so will need a few days to decide on this one but will try to make it happen!

Would be great to see you, but I hope there will be other opportunities. We need more meetups.

I shall have a chat with Mrs N. when she's back from the gymnastics run, but will absolutely attempt to join you. It's about time we personally had a catch up and would be great to meet some Hive peeps (even though I've largely been absent forever).

Wife has been notified so all being well, I shall be there. Will drive down as so much cheaper and quicker than the train.

I do wonder what happened to @katharsisdrill. I sent him an email some time ago and never got a reply. Hope he's OK.., I know he's had health problems.

Cheers. It's overdue really. I had been hoping to see some others crop up. We used to have a few in London.

(Edited)

I really want to try and get to some meetups, England is only a few quid on a plane. When things settle down over the next year I'll have more time on my hands to be able to attend Hive events.

I was hoping to go to Hive fest this year since I couldn't make last years, but I don't know if I could make it to Mexico.

Mexico is a bit of a trek and I'm not going. You need something over your way.

Wow that was 4 years ago! Time is weird? The pandemic has screwed with everyone's timeline...well those that survived it anyway.
Hitchen is a nice little town 👍🏼

As I understand it, the weather is not very contrasting in Foggy Albion, therefore, ladies and gentlemen can come to a meeting in ordinary clothes, suitable for a social event in the historical part of the city :)

One would hope for clement conditions in July, but one never knows what the weather gods will bring.

I thought that there are no unpredictable things on Foggy Albion :)

A walk sounds like a fun start to a meet up. I've got a lot on in July but will see if I can move something around especially as Hitching is doable in a day.

I know it's a few days since anyone added to this post, but I thought I'd just pop up and say that I should be able to get to Hitchin this Sunday. "She who must be obeyed" has given me permission to go 😁

Great! There should be a few of us there even if the weather is not looking great. See my next post for more details.

Bedford is good for me and I love fish and chips. I'm away for most of next month, but up for meeting otherwise. It's best to give people some notice if you want to set a date. Be sure to let @buzzparty know.

On it. I am having few days off in September. If it is not clashing with anyone plans, we can try in September. @buzzparty is from Bedford?
