Follow Friday: Vote early, vote often

The News

I am not sure anyone really wants to look at the price charts lately. Since the start of the year it has been mostly downhill. Somehow Justin's baby has been fairly stable, but I have no idea what goes on there. I do not really worry too much about $HIVE. I know that good things are happening here and that it is not likely to go away any time soon. The Hive platforms is about much more than money to me and many others. This is our online community. I have plenty of friends here that I do not connect to elsewhere and my posts get great engagement.

Prices from @coingecko

When I am talking about voting I do not just mean on posts. That is important though. You are showing support for people and will get rewarded for doing so. Curation is a superpower here as both sides of the vote benefit. I would encourage people to use their HP themselves even if they automate it. By all means follow the trail of someone you trust to vote well. It should not just be about following the big accounts and you may even earn better by not doing that as you are competing with many others.

Other forms of voting here are on witnesses and proposals. You can vote for 30 witnesses and as many proposals as you like. All the small votes can add up to something significant.

You can support Hive in other ways. On TheDappList you can vote for Hive projects and @coldbeetrootsoup are coordinating that. I did vote some up last week, but I had some issues logging in today. You can use various crypto wallets and I used the one built into the Brave browser.

Vote it up!

On Coingecko you can show how you feel about coins. Someone is downvoting $HIVE, so it needs some support. You do not need to log in to do that, but you can only vote every few days. You can do the same on CoinMarketCap once each day.

Friday Follows

  • @arcange is behind many cool Hive projects. He does a monthly stats post, that is a little late this month, with lots of details of where we stand. It could be better really. We need lots more active people here. on HiveBuzz you can check your own ranking by various criteria.
  • @brofund have thoughts on various things around crypto that you may find interesting. Share your opinions.
  • @detlev has been here running the beer contests for many years. He is involved with @worldmappin now. I have met up with him at many of the Hivefest events and we once met when he was over in London and of course we had a beer or three.
  • @arseniclullaby is a comic artist who shares his thoughts with us not and then. He knows that industry well and has strong opinions about it. I bought some of his works that can be quite dark.

The Dog House

There has been a lot of talk about vote buying recently. In the early days of this chain it was a big business and seemed to be widely accepted, but that has not been the case since we became Hive. People want rewards to be about merit. Of course people can do what they like, but some will enforce their opinions with downvotes. There are shades of grey with this, but if you are having to pay to get the majority of the rewards on your posts then you are doing it wrong. You need to build an audience of actual people and that will take work. It will be more satisfying in terms of engagement though. You have to seek out those who share your interests. That could be via communities and you can create your own for a small fee.

The End

What will you be doing for Hive in 2025? It really cannot be all about self-promotion as we need more active people. You can encourage those who are not getting much engagement and make others aware of them. You can talk about Hive with your friends. I know it can be hard as crypto can have a bad reputation. Get to some events if you can, and if there is nothing nearby then organise one. If you get a few people together talking about Hive then cool things can happen.

Hive five!

I feel good about hive and you have shared some good Friday updates. I mostly use CoinMarketCap but will checkout coingecko also and vote there. I think at this price the hive is good for those who are trying to build and are here for long term.
Happy Friday Stevec

Well, I voted by buying some extra Hive Power ;) And I am going to continue, if the price stays as low as it is, I'll buy some 20-30k within this year.

I saw you'd been buying. I may too, but I hope to increase my HP a lot this year anyway.

I'll just be posting like I have been for the next year I would imagine. There isn't much else I can do but try to get more people into my community.

I really think we should get more crypto fans joining up as they will understand the concepts and ought to welcome the freedom.

I haven't voted on HIVE (or any other coin) on price aggregators recently. Thanks for the reminder. I just did... Who knows? Every little thing could help...

Thanks for the insights Steve. I've just upvoted Hive on CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap. I have used 1/30 witness votes and voted for some proposals.

My main reason for posting on Hive is not about money. It's about having my writing read. Even though the read-to-vote ratio is very low, It's still worth doing.

I have no posting targets. I post when I have completed a walk or finished an article. In the same way, I only post when I feel I have something constructive to say.

I've had other blogs, but this gets the most attention. I want people to read what I write.

For sure. We shouldn't let our HP stay idle for the benefits of both authors and curators on this blockchain.

I like voting for posts and witnesses. It’s good because the small votes add up, so even with my little and gradually growing HP, it makes a bit of a difference at least.

Addressing the Downvote Issue on Hive: It’s Time for Real Change

Let’s cut through the noise and address one of the most pressing issues holding Hive back from reaching its full potential: abusive downvotes. The Bipcoin team has consistently exposed the systemic problems that stifle growth on this platform, yet little to no action has been taken. If Hive is to thrive, we must confront these challenges head-on instead of engaging in empty discussions that lead nowhere.

Hive cannot grow if nothing changes. How can new users and smaller creators flourish when they are constantly suppressed by those who exploit the system? Many so-called “whales” contribute nothing meaningful to the ecosystem—instead, they focus solely on farming rewards through manipulative tactics like mass self-voting, spam content, or coordinated downvoting campaigns. These actions discourage genuine participation and erode trust within the community.

Blockchain transactions don’t lie. We’ve seen firsthand the shady methods used to game the system—whether it’s creating alt accounts to amplify votes, orchestrating downvote brigades, or hoarding influence without giving back to the network. Why does this behavior continue unchecked? Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words, and until concrete steps are taken to address these abuses, Hive will struggle to move forward.

We have repeatedly presented evidence of these practices, not to divide but to demand accountability. The truth is out there for anyone willing to look at the data. Yet, despite our efforts, the cycle persists. Today, we’re asking again: Can we finally talk about the real issues plaguing Hive? And more importantly, can we take decisive action to protect the integrity of this platform?

Do not let bullies destroy what makes Hive special. Abuse of power through downvotes and manipulation harms everyone—creators, curators, and the community as a whole. It’s time to fight back against these toxic practices and create an environment where all voices can be heard and rewarded fairly.

The Bipcoin team remains committed to exposing the truth and advocating for meaningful change. But we can’t do it alone. Together, let’s push for solutions that ensure Hive becomes a place of opportunity, fairness, and growth—for everyone.

Enough talk. Let’s see action.

Every curation reward from @buildawhale’s bot votes:

  • Steals from creators.
  • Centralizes power.
  • Normalizes abuse.

The blockchain doesn’t forget—your actions are permanently recorded. So, enjoy your scam farm snacks now, because karma always delivers the bill.

The Hive platforms is about much more than money to me and many others. This is our online community. I have plenty of friends here that I do not connect to elsewhere and my posts get great engagement.

Hive is a place to live together in a work or creative way with people with whom you share tastes, people you can call friends or family for providing the support we all need.

This place can be the workplace we all want or the school where you can always learn something new every day, and it can also be the perfect place to establish meaningful bonds.

I try to vote early on both posts and comments. Occasionally if there is not much to say in reply to a comment, especially a long conversation about stamps I had with @new.things recently! I’ll vote on those too but with a little less power behind them.

Meanwhile the Hive Sound Library community I’ve been working on has been a lot of fun with @ale.dri getting involved by sharing his collection of microphones and how he uses them to record drums.

There is plenty more to come over there and it’s a case of gathering people together who love to make noises with anything!!

Curation is a superpower here as both sides of the vote benefit. I would encourage people to use their HP themselves even if they automate it. By all means follow the trail of someone you trust to vote well. It should not just be about following the big accounts and you may even earn better by not doing that as you are competing with many others.

Curation as a super power, that's a nice way to say it. But I agree it isnquite unique that both authors as curators profit from it.
I also agree that people should use their curation powers wisely.
Following popular trails would result in more rewards to the sane group of people.
Manual curation, delegsting parts toncuration projects or following smaller trails would be better I think.

[Spam]
I take this opportunity to promote our @topcomment curation service that also has a trail and delegations.

Thanks for sharing. I'll send my vote on Hive Keychain!

Most of my voting is manual so I choose exactly where it goes. I have a few delegations to projects I trust, but do not worry about earning from those.

Thanks for the plug! As long as Hive is charting highs and lows that are somewhat parallel with the rest of the crypto market, it's neither here nor there imo. It's largest gains, I feel the need to remind everyone, have come from projects and creatives using Hive and getting traction. (splinterlands ring a bell?) so always support the creatives on here

I'm not taking funds out for now, so the price is not too important to me, but I know it is for others. I was into Splinterlands, but have not played in a while. There are new developments with the game. I think Hive had something to offer as other platforms get more intrusive and shift their focus. It's where I spend my time.
