Follow Friday: Number crunching
The News
This week brings a return of my crypto chart using the @coingecko API. I had issues with it saying I had exceeded the free limit, but I have it working to some extent now. There is a limit on how many calls you can do, but I only do one for each coin.
You can see that $HIVE and the 'blue' coin have been tracking each other for a while, but the gap has started to close. Who would want to buy that shitcoin? From what I can see a few accounts are reaping thousands each week from junk posts, but most probably make little.
You can vote coins up or down over there. We ought to make sure $HIVE is always up around 100%.
The Vibes music contest rolls on with lots of funds distributed both by the prizes and with post rewards. Any musicians could be earning from that, so we should encourage more to join up.
@risingstargame celebrated their 4th birthday with the launch of another new type of mission. The game just keeps on expanding and I cannot see why people should not play as it can cost nothing.
Friday Follows
- @tunnelvision0 is behind the AriaVPN service and they just joined Hive. Using a VPN is a good idea for everyone.
- On the topic of @coingecko, @awesomianist works for them and reported on them celebrating ten years of operating. I did ask if the company account might start posting again, but he is not sure. We need to show it is worth their time by building the crypto community here.
- @leobooks is a book review community.
- I just bought the new album by @ugochill and it is excellent.
- I will plug my band @theriverkicks. We have some gigs coming up this year and I shall be posting about those.
These people get a share of the post rewards.
The Dog House
A topic that keeps popping up is self-voting. It can be controversial, but the way I see it is that if you have a substantial HP stake then you ought to be supporting other users. You will earn from curation anyway. If you have been around for a while then you are likely to be getting reasonable votes on your posts, or you should be if you have been engaging with the community. People appreciate those who add value to Hive.
We see cases where people try to be sneaky by voting on their own comment so it is less obvious than post votes, but this can be easily detected.
Some will ask why self-voting is not just forbidden by the Hive algorithm. One reason is that you can easily set up proxy accounts to do it. I am not against new accounts doing it when they struggle to make enough for their posts to pay out. I certainly did when the payment curve was different and some of my posts made nothing. I have not done it for a long time.
Self-voting can lose you some rewards as some people will give you less votes if you do it. It should be up to the community to decide what your rewards are even if you think you are entitled to more. None of us is automatically entitled to rewards. That said, it can seem unfair that some people always make a lot, but most of them have been around a while and earned respect. I want to see Hive grow a lot and rewards get spread more widely as people power up. That will reduce the influence of the whales.
The End
We are well into April now. I hope your year is going well. I hear a lot about the 'Bitcoin halving', but I have no idea what impact that will have. I keep playing the long game of Hive.
Hive five!

I still play Rising Star, but I can't advance any further because I don't have enough Petrol cans and I refuse to invest more Hive into the game.
That's your choice. You can save up Starbits to buy the stuff. I fund my playing from the game and some other coins that pay me a little.
How many starbits does a can of petrol go for these days?
Someone paid 124109 starbits this morning and that was a private deal. 😱
I don't need any more of those, but I have to buy STARPRO for missions. I just want to keep playing and collecting cards.
Thank You.!!! :)
Hugs from lowlands
You're most welcome.

Same! I think of the old saying, "Buy on the rumor. Sell on the news."
I feel bullish about Hive especially for the fact that BTC halving is on its way
