As @coingecko seem to have killed the free API access I shall resort to screenshots for my charts. I cannot justify paying $100/month for what I was doing.
As you can see the $HIVE price has not changed much over the year. That is good as it means it has steady support and some people will be keen to buy more, but it will disappoint those who hoped for more interest in it. It has fallen out of the top 300 coins and I find it hard to believe that many really have more value. Is it just that $HIVE is seen as old now and people go for the latest shiny thing? There seem to be a lot of 'memecoins' out there that are just seen as novelties.
Using the charts that @arcange posts I can see that we gained about 50,000 accounts over this year, but only have about 100 more minnows. That shows that people are not sticking with it and that should worry us. Hive needs engaged users. Part of that is to drive the development of the dapps. Many of the developers will not be making much, but having a bigger set of users will encourage them to keep going.
I think the social side of Hive matters a lot. I know some people are driven by the money, but billions use other platforms where they make nothing. That is down to the content available there, but also the social experience. I think you have to encourage the sort of content you want to see more of. That may be music, travel, photography, food, or something more niche. Fill your feed with what you enjoy and then Hive becomes a more fun place for you.

- Some years ago I was part of a guitar community called Six String Bliss. A friend on there from India, @brijwhiz, is now active on Hive. I met @stav there too.
- This week I joined a Zoom call run by @alessandrawhite where creative people can chat and exchange ideas. We had a performance of a classical piece composed by one of the group. Very inspiring.
- @groove-logic shared some electronic beats for Christmas.
- @nupulse also had some seasonal music
These folk get a share of the post rewards. Being able to set beneficiaries is such a cool feature.
The Dog House
We need to look out for abuse of Hive, so watch out for the following that will put people on the naughty list:
- Plagiarism: Trying to earn from the work of others is not cool.
- Impersonation: We have had a few famous names crop up here, but they mostly turn out to be imposters. The real deals could prove themselves by linking to Hive from other platforms.
- Generated content: This is becoming more of an issue where people generate text and images using the various 'AI' tools. Those tools keep improving, so we need to do our own Turing Tests to see how real the authors are.
- Scammers: Beware of links that ask for your keys. You could lose control of your account. Report any instances you see. They will try to tempt you with 'airdrops' and other freebies, but do some checking first.

I hate to see Hive drop out of the top 300 list. It must be as you said, people seem interested in the newer and shinnier projects out there, but it makes no sense that people would choose shitcoins with barely any use case over something like Hive.
After reading Arcanges report yesterday, I was shocked to see that Hive has roughly 500 - 600k power ups over the past three months, while 1m+ has been powered down to - no doubt - sell.
I believe that must not only effect the price, but also the rating. We need it to be the opposite.
It's a terrible thing to say, because 1, I know people can do what they want with their earnings, and 2, people may depend on that money. But, I think we need to encourage people to power up, and keep it there. If not for the betterment of Hive and it's price/ score, but also for future price prospects.
We need to either attract more people who don't depend on their earnings here, or find ways to incentivise people who do, to keep it staked, even just until there are more power ups than power downs.
We need a good mix of people here. I have no issue with those who desperately need the money as long as they can add some value and not just take. I'd love to make it an attractive place for musicians and fans to hang out.
It would be great to do that, and have fans of bands joining would be good, since when they get here they'l learn more about Hive.
It would be great if we had a mid-sized band or two who joined who had a decent following.
I have no issue with it either, it's not anyones job to tell people what to do with their money. But, I think as a community we should ensure that people in general have a good understanding of the effect on Hive it has, and its future price.
I dunno man, something needs to happen with the people who are here. I'm thinking of it like an analogy. Hive is like a boat, and there are people making repairs to it and building it up for more people, while others are jumping onboard actively breaking it and making it sink. Through things from using AI, Plagarism, and other things, and I'd include destructive extracting on a large scale to that list since reading those stats of the last three months.
It's a form of anarchy for sure and that may actually attract some. You can do what you want here, but others may object. We have plenty of strong opinions around here.

I feel it will just be better for people to be upright on here. I mean by engaging with other people and being more active. Investing in the token is more important though or increasing our HP
