The News

The crypto price charts have not done too much this week, but $HIVE has moved up the rankings a little on Coingecko.

I will be generating the #BritList tomorrow and I expect the number of active people could be down again. We are not doing so well on keeping people engaged with Hive. I know they have other things going on, but Hive has a lot going for it. I am spending less time on corporate platforms these days as they are full of ads and interesting people have moved away. I am on Mastodon to follow a few people, so give me a shout if you use it.

I think we may be seeing growth in some places such as Venezuela, Cuba and Ghana. People there have much more to gain by earning something online. I think any growth is good and Hive may remain strong in just a few niches for a while yet. We need to reach some critical mass to get noticed.

It is good to see that Threads on Leo Finance has been properly released now. You can see threads from just the people you follow, which makes it much more useful. I liked that one of the screenshots on their post had a thread by me on it. The site did go down for a while today, but seems to be working now.

Friday Follows

• @planetauto have done lots of posts about cars, but are branching into video production.
• Touring musicians @thetroublenotes are selling shirts to raise money for a charity that helps needy children.
• @epodcaster is doing a series of posts for #NationalPhotographyMonth that talk about her podcasting activities.
• A couple of people I found via the Hive Open Mic contest are @guitarmcy and @chichi18. I love that Hive is bringing musicians around the world together.

Communities

I would like to see more use of Hive communities for getting like-minded people together. The big ones seem to be about curation, but want to be able to find posts on my favourite topics without having to follow lots more people. I have created a few communities and participate in others.

• Drumming is something I got into recently. I have found a few drummers on Hive that I can learn from.
• We have a fair few whisky/whiskey fans here. There is often a good story behind a bottle.
• I also like comics and we have some talented creators on Hive.
• Hive Statistics can be interesting to see how the blockchain is changing.

What communities do you think we are missing. I was looking for one about audio production as that is something I am into. I found one, but the admin has been inactive for years. We need engaged people managing them to deal with any abuse and keep them on topic.

We have a long weekend in the UK for the coronation of the new king. I am sure people will out and about. That can lead to ideas for more posts. You have to stay inspired as well as finding things that will interest others. Hive should not be just about churning out generic posts for automated votes. Engagement makes it fun. Although most come here for the money I would hope that they enjoy the community too. Those who just throw out posts and never comment are missing out. I tend not to support them anyway.
