The News

The crypto markets are recovering a little with $HIVE (vote it up) back to where it was a couple of weeks ago. I expect some people were buying recently. I did not, but I have still got to 99k HP and should hit 100k soon.

There was a big Hive conference in Ghana this week with hundreds of young people learning about it. I would hope a lot of them have joined up. An influx of people may cause concerns about quality, but we should make them welcome and help them find ways to benefit. Well done to @mcsamm and @collinz for making this happen.

Friday Follows

• I have known @papilloncharity online for many years. He just celebrated six years on this blockchain and he just keeps producing amazing nature photography.
• I have known @livinguktaiwan for a while too and met her last year in Amsterdam. She also marks six years here.
• @dannewton has been on his travels to Scotland where he found lots of moths.
• @friendlymoose is having fun growing food in their garden in the Netherlands. I like to see people sharing tips on things like this. I am not a great gardener.

These people get a share of the post rewards. I would always encourage more engagement on Hive. Do not just make it about the votes as people love to get feedback on their posts. Hive is social and not just financial.

Hive Sites

I am running low on suggestions for this section, so these are a little more specialist. Some of the links I had are dead now. Let me know of any cool new projects to feature.

• It may be niche, but HiveRSS gives you a feed Hive posts that you can use in an app like Feedly to follow a person, tag or other options. This could be combined with other apps to make content available elsewhere. It is maintained by @hivetrending.
• HiveLive sounds interesting, but I have not used it. It can give visual indications when a livestream gets donations via Hive. The developer @bambukah has some other projects going on.
• Hive QR Code Generator creates images that people can scan to send Hive funds to someone using Hive Keychain. I would love to see a busker using this.

The Doghouse

I have probably mentioned this before, but I despair when I see a Hive account that posts, but never comments. I think in some cases they generate their posts from other platforms, e.g. Wordpress, and never actually visit Hive, but it puts me off voting for them. I am not against people using other platforms, but ignoring the community seems selfish to me. There are some well established accounts doing it, but I also see it with new people. Many of those struggle to gain a following and that is not surprising. In one case the account keeps posting the same content, but nobody is seeing it and they have attracted the attention of the 'Hive police' who do not approve of duplication.

The End

We are almost halfway through 2023. Are you on target for your goals? I think Hive in general needs goals and one of those should be increasing the number of active users. Efforts like the one in Ghana will make a difference, but we need similar events elsewhere. Even getting a few people together in a pub can create a buzz. Every new user is a potential ambassador for Hive.
