The News

I tend to start these posts with a price chart. I generate it with my script that uses the @coingecko API. $HIVE seems to be following the ups and downs of Bitcoin, as you might expect. I know a lot of people are buying right now and many will be powering up. Building your HP gives you influence on Hive and increases your earning potential. You should vote on posts that you enjoy to encourage the creators. I would recommend keeping your voting power above 80% so that it has a chance to recover overnight and make your votes count for more.

Prices

If you have not heard of the Fediverse it is a network of social sites that can share content. The best known implementation is Mastodon which is a short-form social site something like the old Twitter. Many people went there when the old platform started to deteriorate under new management. Bluesky is also federated and so is Peertube. I have mentioned before that I think it would be great if Hive could be part of it too. @hivetrending did a partial implementation that could at least show profiles a while back. Now @roelandp has posted about this and a few other people seem interested. I am not a web developer, so it is outside my field, but I am sure others have the knowledge. I shared that post on Mastodon and one guy responded as I might have expected with scepticism about blockchain. That seems to be common over there, but I think it may be based on some assumptions that do not apply to Hive. A lot of people think that cryptocurrency is wasteful on energy (some are) and is generally a scam (not true). I suspect that not all Fediverse users have this bias, but it may present some obstacles to getting accepted there.

Friday Follows

I make no apologies for including people who I have featured before. I have limited time to seek out new people, but I find some through what others share.

@mcsamm has an update on the Hive boreholes in Ghana. He will be representing Hive at Dev Expo:LDN along with @alessandrawhite. I hope to get there too.
Talking of conferences, @coldbeetrootsoup and others are at the Web3 conference in Amsterdam telling people about Hive.
@meno posted about the future of blogging on Hive. He is an avid blogger on various topics and I also enjoy that form, but is it what the 'masses' want? We have short-form and should cater for all types of user.
@vaipraonde has created a Discord bot that can write @hivesql queries for you. We have access to all the data of Hive and can use it for whatever we want. This may make it easier for non-programmers.
Musician @harbiter has some thoughts about the value of creating Hive communities for specialist interests. I do think there is great potential in this. If the category is too wide, e.g. all music, then there may be too much to handle and it is difficult to find what you are interested in. Communities about specific types of music can be more useful, as can those that cater for languages other than English.

The Dog House

This relates to some issues I have mentioned before around spam on Hive. You cannot really be stopped from posting here and the only limit may be your resource credits. Whether your posts and comments are seen by others may be limited by your reputation and whether communities or users block you. If you are annoying and repetitive then they probably will. Just consider if your automated comments are really adding anything.

A lesser form of spam is the low quality comment. People want engagement on their posts, but if you just say 'Nice' or 'You did well' then you are not really adding to the conversation. It is up to others whether they give you votes for that, but I may not. Time is valuable and getting notified of a comment that says nothing much can waste it.

I have done these weekly posts and various other things that I hope help the community for many years. I do them as they can be fun and also to give back something. I do okay from Hive, but I want others to get more from it. That is partly selfish as we need active people to make it a fun place to be, but I also believe that Hive could do a lot of good around the world if more people were aware of it.

Of course you will be trying to earn here, but everyone can do something to help the wider community. You can help people to connect with posts like this, manage a community, help out newbies or just engage with people who share your interests. You do not have to be a developer or a marketing guru to add value to Hive.

I would love for Hive to be integrated with Mastodon because after all, the guys at Nostr have done something similar called Mostr. I would love to see posts from Mastodon etc appear in my Hive feed that I could respond to and encourage people to dip their toes in here and then go, "Oh this is rather fun, I am going to get involved".

I think it has massive potential. If nothing else it means we could reach more readers, even if they can't give Hive votes. Visibility matters.
