Follow Friday: Cooling Off
The News
Nothing too exciting with crypto prices that I have seen. $HIVE is down a little, but has not varied a lot over the last few months. I am just amazed that $STEEM holds up at all. They have no obvious development going on and a few accounts milk most of the rewards. I know some people post there as well as on Hive, but you would be lucky to make much there. My old account is censored anyway.
Some time ago @pharesim created Hiveinvite that let you create accounts for others and would send the keys directly to them. Previously you needed to enter your key on the site, which some would not feel comfortable doing. Now it works with Keychain. I have lots of account creation tokens, so I will try this soon.
I did create an account for someone who contacted me on Facebook, but I did it by the old method of downloading the keys and sending them over. I will delete that file, but they have to trust me to do it. Of course they should really change their keys anyway, but I suspect a lot of people have never done that. It is actually pretty easy on Peakd and I have done it several times. As long as you ensure you have the key file you will be safe. There is a need for better newbie resources about Hive. There are various help pages, posts and videos, but finding them can be tricky. I found some peakd 'collections', but they were quite old and some information may be out of date.
I also saw @anomadsoul discussing curation. This is an endless topic. We have issues both with rewarding good content and in how downvotes are used. The big accounts need to use their votes for the good of Hive. I have seen so many debates about what counts as quality content. It does not have to be a 500 word blog post with lots of images and detailed sources. People should make it clear if they did not create something though. Elsewhere online a selfie or meme can get massive engagement. I do not see why Hive should not get a share of that. We have ways to do short form content with Leo Threads, DBuzz and Ecency Waves. Those are designed to avoid massive rewards through automatic votes. Put your memes on those and have fun.
Friday Follows
- @silviabeneforti has a solo art exhibition right now. You can wish her luck and perhaps find some art you would like to buy.
- @lordbutterfly shared a clip from his Hive documentary featuring @theycallmedan. I am excited to see the finished movie. It is due to be previewed at Hivefest, but I would expect it to be available after that.
- I think I mentioned @buzzparty recently, but they have now put out maps showing Hive events around the world. I keep saying that anyone can host an event as it can just be a meetup in bar, cafe, park or other place where people can get together to chat. Let them know if you do.
- @daniellemurray posted some songs that she and I along with @purplesinger and another friend recorded one weekend.
These folk get a share of the post rewards.
The Doghouse
A while back an account was posting gaming videos, but the owner was very reluctant to verify that they were from his Youtube. We get plenty of instances of people posting content as if they created it when they just found it online. He did eventually prove the link, but had a bad attitude that won him no friends. He is still posting, but gets no real engagement. He has tried to exploit buying votes from Ecency instead of getting actual fans. I would not think that is too profitable.
Meanwhile he seems to have created several other accounts, including some that try to imitate people from the abuse-fighting community. This also seems to be one of his, but it just posts these random texts. Some have got votes, but those have been removed.
I do not think you need to 'suck up' to the big accounts here, but if you actively antagonise people whilst making no attempt to build a real following then you will not succeed. Hive rewards cannot be taken for granted and if you try to play the system you are likely to be found out. Some people here are very good at tracking down abuse.
It is possible this person has issues with engaging with people, but has made no claims about that. Hive is a social platform and behaving antisocially will hamper your chances.
The End
I will be compiling a new #BritList tomorrow, so please let me know if I may have missed anyone. It is not too late for your inactive friends to post, comment or vote to be included. Any of those activities will count. I would love to see the active numbers go up again.

I don't focus on the hive prize, as I'm new to hive (in my opinion 4 months old is also a newbie) so i focus to engage with people. As it encourage me to stay here when one day I'll have my own friends here on hive 😀
That's a good attitude. I have made a lot of friends here, but also brought in some from the 'real world'.
Invite some real life friends to hive is also a good attitude 😃
I think most of us could find at least one friend who could use Hive. They will need some help at the start though.

.I am always about the price of Hive and I just hope that it goes up again like before...
I hope you remember when it used to be at $3
If you just concentrate on the price it may spoil your engagement. You might use FB/Twtr/Insta with no expectation of reward, so why not get the same fun here?
The price will only go up if people see value in Hive and any of us can play a part in that by promoting it, bringing in new people and investing if we can.
I keep earning every day anyway. If the price does go up then my stake will gain value, but I am not losing anything much if it goes down as I have only bought a small part of what I have.
This was an inspiration ... trying again at onboarding this weekend ... walking a friend through ...
Good luck. I'm sure there will be lots of questions.

@steevc, sorry!
You are out of hugs for today.
You can call the HUG bot a maximum of 3 per day.

In the end hive will be a winner.
I hope so, but nothing is certain. We can help make it happen.
Sad what happened to Steem. Once it was our favorite platform. Obviously until Justin Sun's takeover. Nowadays we have the Hive blockchain (hardforked from the Steem blockchain). I thought that I write this down, because new users maybe not know it. Good to know where this platform started from.
Steemit Inc sold us out, but the community moved on. It was a traumatic moment, but we came out stronger.
Amigo me parece que Hive está un poco estancando desde aquella subida a 3$ histórico por cierto en Nov-2021, se mantenía entre 0.60 y 1$ el Hive ahora no sale de los 0.35$.
Well we have to make it valuable as I have said. Spread the word.
If i really tried and actually invest on Binance in my Hive Cryptocurrency.
Not everyone can afford to invest, but we can build Hive in other ways.
Thank you so much for mentioning @buzzparty here :) You are definitely correct: Hosting a meetup is absolutely not hard. At first, I thought it was super complicated to find people, a good spot, and think about talking points or a structure but yeah - my first two meetups have been super chill. Only one guy came but it was definitely worth it :)
