Booked for Hivefest

I just got sorted for going to @hivefest in Split, Croatia next month. This will be my fourth such event. I was at SF2 in Lisbon, SF3 in Krakow and HF7 in Amsterdam. I have really enjoyed each of them, so I was keen to go again.

I nearly went to the first one, but I was a fairly new redfish back then and a bit nervous about meeting all these people. I was still nervous when I went to Lisbon, but I was made very welcome and people actually knew who I was. The events in Thailand and Mexico were just not viable for me.

I am paying for my event ticket with HBD that I have been saving up for ages. It is nice to be able to spend it.

There are some suggested hotels on the Hivefest site, but I think they may be booked up already. I looked on Booking.com and found plenty of options. You can go really cheap with a bed in a dormitory, but I prefer to have my own room and this place looked nice enough. I really just need somewhere to sleep and these events are pretty busy with the conference running all day and then some sort of entertainment in the evenings.

We are not too far from Luton Airport and it is a fairly short flight from there. I have not flown for a year after a big trip to the US and Canada, so this will be my only flying trip in 2024.

If you are wondering whether to go then I would recommend it. You will meet so many interesting people and the conference presentations cover a lot of topics. It can all be quite intense and you may find you lose your voice from talking so much.

I have never been to Split or Croatia before, so I am excited to explore a new city. It looks like it has lots of history and I hope I have time to see some. My flight on my last day is fairly late, so that could be when I get to be a tourist.
