Description from Strava:

For the final stop of our trip we are in New York for a few days. I was here for a couple of days many years ago, so only got a taste then and a lot has changed.

I will do more Hive posts about what we have been up to, but this one is mostly about the cycle tour we did in Central Park.

We did the tour with Unlimited Biking via the Go City Pass that gets you a discount. Their shop near the park was very busy. We wanted a morning tour, but had to come back at 4pm. We spent the day checking out sights such as Grand Central station and Rockefeller Plaza before spending time in the Museum of Modern Art.

We had to ride a little on the road, but there are lots of cycle lanes. In the park you can ride on the main roads amongst walkers, runners, bikes, scooters and horse drawn carriages. It was really busy.

We stopped in various places to explore. There are so many iconic film locations.

It was fun ride and not too taxing. The hills are not that big. We rode around most of the park, but did not see everything.

The last stop was Strawberry Fields near where John Lennon lived and was murdered over 40 years ago. We have been to the original once in Liverpool too. There were some musicians there playing Beatles songs.

I did not spot any celebrities, but the guide said he saw Crispin Glover near where we started.

We did a lot of walking today as well, so are worn out. We did have a great dinner though.

Ride free!

I spent a day in New York as a teenager back in 1993. I imagine it to be very different indeed now. We visited the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, FAO Shwarz and a big Macys (I think). The World Trade Centre was on the agenda but a bomb had gone off in the parking garage a few months beforehand I think it was closed.

It was a nice journey. 11 km is a long distance.

It's not about the distance :)

Central Park is pretty cool. I haven't been there in a while either, but I remember visiting Strawberry fields. It was quite busy when I was there.

Sunday is probably more manic than other times. Those people need their green space.

I can't say as though I blame them. Did you get to see Belvedere Castle? Probably pretty lame compared to the castles you have over there!

We saw the 'castle'. Quaint. Those city folk need some green space. The Shakespeare garden was nice.

That is awesome! NYC is always a fun place to explore. The hardest part is deciding where to go first! Glad you had a fund day, but that ride will wear you out...

We have one more night, but are seeing a lot. I'm not sure I'd want to live here. It's top busy.

Not a great place to live, but a great place to visit. I lived in Philadelphia for a few years and used to spend a lot of weekends up there. I don't miss living on the east coast though!

Yes, you can see a lot from a bike. We've done so much walking too. It's exhausting.

We have been to Strawberry fields too, there was this one guitarist playing beatles songs too. Impressive place. We went by cycle-taxi trough Central Park. Did you go on the top of rock? From there you can see Central Park from a big hight, pretty impressive shape, a big green rectangle in the middle of the city. I love New York, great city.

It's a cool city, but too busy for my taste. Just sitting in the park now after visiting the Natural History Museum. A few rats around here.
