At last another rehearsal with The Moonshots
It has been a while since I played with @themoonshots. I missed the last rehearsal when they were joined by a guitarist. I have met him before at a gypsy jazz session, but that was a while back. Unfortunately he could not be there this week, so it was just myself on drums, @daniellemurray on clarinet (and shouting!), @renaissancegeek on flute and vocals, and @purplesinger on piano and vocals. Once again we were at London Road Studios in Baldock and they put us in the big room again. That is quite nice, but after we had been there an hour another band moved in next door and the bass sound from them was shaking the fittings in our room. This is despite all the sound-proofing. After some discussion with the studio owners the other band moved to the other building. We are not a loud band and the noise made it hard to focus.
I have included a few clips of Pure Imagination, Feeling Good, Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby and Moondance. We have done these before so they are fairly familiar, but there are always details to work on. I tried some 'trading fours' drum fills on the first one, but this is not a strong area for me. I thought that generally we sounded good despite me not having played this music in a while. The phone audio is not great, but it sounded better in the room.
We have another gig in Hitchin next month with another rehearsal before that when the guitarist will be with us so that will be fun. I think it would be nice to have a bassist too, but it is not always easy to find musicians, especially when you are playing for free. We do it for fun.
I am hoping we can get a few more gigs this year. I will also look out for other opportunities to play. I am up for playing other styles. I work on some of those in my online and in-person lessons. I have also been doing another bass course. I have not played that with a band yet, but maybe I will try it some time.
Rock on!

That's pretty cool that you get to do all that in a proper studio.
There's a few places like this locally. People make professional recordings there, but it's mostly for rehearsals where you can make some noise. We have played at Danielle's place, but not with full drums as the neighbours may not like that. The studio has a PA so the singers can be heard.
That makes a lot of sense. Very cool.
It might have been a bit strange for you not having the guitarist around, but it seems you all made the most of it ;)
Not really strange when I haven't played with him :)
You should try it with full of band squad, waiting to see tour performance;
