Description from Strava:
Yesterday I met up with a few Hive folk in Bedford. @alessandrawhite was there for a clarinet course and so we coordinated to get a few others there. We had @nicklewis, @chris-uk, @shanibeer and @gillianpearce join us as we met up at the Olive Tree Turkish restaurant by the River Great Ouse. I had met everyone except Chris before and he had made the longest journey from Norwich by train via London. The food was great. I had moussaka that was nice.

Alessandra and I distributed some Hive merchandise. I had some that arrived too late for a previous event. After lunch I took them on a tour around the areas by the river. The water has been really high recently and the weir where there is a canoe slalom was in full flow. I did not take many photos, but others did so check out their posts that I will share.

We ended at the Swan Hotel for drinks and chatted a while longer before people had to make their way home. It is always nice to get together with such smart people. Some of us have been through a lot on Hive, but we are still there as we believe it can do so much good.
With my morning run I ended up with 19,000 steps for Saturday, but I still wanted to get out today. I did a different run for some variety. Early on a spotted a cycle helmet in the gutter that looked a bit like a skull. I wonder who lost that. I also met two ladies I know who are both called Linda and they were both walking dogs.
I headed over to Henlow and on to Clifton. This route has some ups and downs. It has got slightly warmer so there was no risk of ice. The mud will take a while to dry out. I saw a few other runners, some more than once. I was not going for speed and I took a couple of walking breaks. It felt pretty good and I picked up the pace a bit on the way back.
As usual there are Sunday chores to do, but I will be taking it fairly easy.
Enjoy your Sunday and run free.

I think that meeting up with fellow Hivers must have made it even more enjoyable ;)
You should try it :)
No fellow HIVE around me :)
You need to recruit some :)
It was fab!
Thoroughly enjoyed my mixed grill and your guided tour! Iβm very keen on having a go on the slalom and will see if the club are up for it, could do it as part of a weekend on the Nene in nearby Northampton.
I expect you can make contact with the local club. I've never been involved with them. My family were more into rowing.

Thatβs a great suggestion, we are looking to bolster our affiliation with other clubs this year. Locally there are several. In Bedford there is The Viking Kayak club who perhaps share the rowing clubs facilities. Thereβs a photo of the slalom course on their Google profile.
Yes, Viking have shared facilities with Star Club that was next to our lunch venue.
Gotcha!
Thanks for all your hard work organizing this. You also took a lot of steps to make sure everyone had a fun time! πΎ
I try to make everyone welcome and show off my home town. I spent so much time around the river fishing and rowing in my younger days. It was my pleasure.

Meeting up with other hivers is revitalizing; you end up feeling energized.
I'm glad you had the motivation to go out and train today. I hope you can push through on Sunday and finish your household chores.
The food looked delicious. I don't think I've ever tried those dishes. @steevc π
It's always worth looking for opportunities to meet people. Anyone can set up a meetup. If there is nobody nearby then recruit some.

The Turkish food at Olive Tree followed by drinks at the Swan sounds like the ultimate way to recharge with the Hive gang.
Now that lunch looks great
Good to have some merchandise to spread π
