Description from Strava:
It was looking a bit dark and damp out this morning. That light in the photo is a streetlight, not the sun. The camera makes it look lighter than it was. It was not raining when I headed out, but it did come down for a short while.
I did the usual loop up the hill to Fairfield. I saw one of my running buddies who clocks up some long runs at a quick pace. I saw a few other runners out there as usual, but it was fairly quiet generally. Someone on en e-bike zoomed past me up the hill.
There were a few puddles around and my feet got a little wet as I tried to jump one.
I was not trying too hard, but I am happy to average under 6min/km as that shows my basic fitness level. I am continuing with a few strength exercises each day at home to stay in shape.
I appreciate that I will be considered old now, but I can still aim to be healthy so I can do the things I want to. One of those is my drumming and I'm currently doing a course on sight-reading that is a challenge, but fun. I will book another lesson with my drum teacher soon, but I need to set some goals for what I want to work on. I will be playing with the jazz band again this year, but I would like to try other styles as well. I just have to find the right people.

LOL! I am amazed by the energy of metal drummers. I may not be up to that, but I have played along to some rock tunes. Here's one I did a couple of years ago. I can see lots of mistakes and I'd hope to do it better now.
I thought you did well! It's actually gotta be hard playing to a track like that, especially on a song you aren't super familiar with. As the drummer you usually are driving the beat, but in situations like this it probably feels more like you are following.
I agree that following can be harder than leading when playing drums, but that is an issue of using backing tracks. I think Drumeo use one of the tools that lets you split the instruments so they can take the original drums out. Obviously when I play live with other musicians then it is more interactive and I am lucky that I can do that too.
Pretty soon you will be like that guy in his office during that one scene of Empire Records...
