Google New Products

Lately there was a whisper going around the market... Google has fallen behind. With OpenAI impressing, Perplexity pushing forward, and other tech giants constantly unveiling new innovations, many believed that Google was out of the game. But the reality is very different.

This year’s Google I/O proved that not only has Google not fallen behind, but it was quietly preparing all along. With a storm of announcements, new products, and astonishing developments, Google came charging back into the spotlight.

GEMINI 2.5

To start with, Google unveiled Gemini 2.5 Pro, which, as announced,
(a) surpasses all competitors in LMArena benchmarks,
(b) ranks #1 on the WebDev Arena platform,
(c) now has over 400 million monthly active users.

And it didn’t stop there. The new Agent Mode of Gemini can handle complex tasks, such as searching weekly for apartments that meet specific criteria. We're talking about real AI agents that take on jobs on our behalf, saving us time and effort.

At the same time, Project Mariner introduces multitasking with up to 10 simultaneous tasks, featuring a “teach and repeat” function. This means it learns a process and repeats it exactly as demonstrated. This paves the way for real-time personal assistants that continuously evolve based on our needs. Mariner is also coming to developers via API, offering huge potential for smart apps and automation.

Additionally, Gemini Live incorporates camera and screen sharing capabilities from Project Astra, offering a real-time interactive experience on iOS and Android.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Of course, all of this requires the right infrastructure. So, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the 7th generation of the Tensor Processing Unit, codenamed Ironwood. It’s 10 times more powerful than the previous generation and will be available to Google Cloud customers later this year.

This means Google’s AI applications will run faster and more efficiently than ever, delivering a better experience to users and businesses. Developers and companies relying on Google Cloud will see a massive upgrade in their infrastructure.

And for video conferencing fans, Google introduced Google Beam, a 3D video conferencing experience that captures participants in three-dimensional form using six cameras. It’s a collaboration with HP and brings a new level to remote professional meetings.

AI MODE

But the most important of all? The AI Mode in Google Search. YES, YES, in Search—where everyone claimed that Google was “done for.” Well, AI Mode is based on Gemini 2.5 and offers advanced understanding, reasoning, and data analysis. It will be added as a new tab in Search, will also appear in the Google app bar, and will use our personal history (with consent) to provide personalized answers.

AI Mode is not just fancy. It’s practical and powerful. For instance, the VP of Engineering at Google Search asked a question about MLB players who use “torpedo bats.” The AI found the players, their stats over the past 2 years, and presented all the data in a chart.

In shopping, the new “Try On” feature allows users to digitally try on clothes. The AI understands body shape, volume, and how the garment fits. Not only does it improve the shopping experience, but it could completely change the online retail landscape. This feature is especially useful for e-commerce businesses looking to reduce product returns.

And all of this, FREE. That’s right—Google is bringing premium AI capabilities to the general public, without a paywall. This is a move of strategic superiority against platforms that require subscriptions.

GOOGLE'S STRATEGY

This is the key point. Google is NOT racing to catch up. Google moves quietly and only reveals its strengths when it’s 100% ready.

While everyone was watching the competition, it was working silently, deeply, and strategically. And when the time came, it unveiled a complete AI ecosystem—from chipsets to search and everyday use.

It's the AI part with video making that really stood out for me, the demo looked really cool and probably a bit frightening for those in the film industry. I think Google also have the numbers on their side, at least in terms of having an existing large user base that they can serve with their AI products.

I love Google's approach. It's a slow but steady win.
