Not a turkish proverb! Elizabeth Bangs said that about Borris Johnson in 2022. Its actual origins trace back to a Circassian proverb that uses the metaphor of an ox entering a palace, turning it into a barn rather than becoming a king. 🖖🏼☀️🤙🏼

Thanks for the clarification! I double-checked, and you are right.

The proverb was used by a Turkish reporter as "Öküz saraya çıkınca kral olmaz ama saray ahır olur" in a criticism, against Erdogan - and she was detained for ‘insulting’ the Turkish President.

Later it was reworked and used against Boris Johnson.
