Shifting from dependence to autonomy !

In today's time, parting away from smartphones is not an easy things to do. Smartphones are ubiquitous in modern life, and many people rely on them for work, communication, entertainment, and various other tasks. Smartphones offer a multitude of functionalities, from accessing information online to managing finances and coordinating travel. This ease of access and efficiency can lead to a reliance on the phone for various aspects of daily life, making it difficult to imagine life without it.

The constant availability of information and entertainment, combined with the ease of access, can make it difficult to disengage from phone use. The reliance on smartphones for everyday tasks can lead to a sense of dependence, where individuals feel lost or overwhelmed without their phone. People may find it easier to use their phone for tasks like checking the weather or finding directions rather than relying on traditional methods. In addition, Social media and messaging apps have become integral to many people's social lives, and the fear of missing out (FOMO) or the desire to stay connected can drive excessive phone use. Individuals may feel pressured to constantly update their status, check notifications, or engage in online conversations to maintain their social standing. Some individuals may rely on smartphones as a way to cope with stress, anxiety, or loneliness. However, this reliance can become a problem if it interferes with their ability to manage these emotions in a healthy way.

But once you realized how the over dependency would affect our life, mind and body, we surely try to distract away from the electronic device. It happened to me, when I encountered neck pain alongwith heavy eye. People who continously use mobile may end up with drop head syndrome, which is really serious concern. I started feeling pain in my eyes, as continous looking at the mobile screen can affect the eye sight. To avoid, the starting signal get worsen, I started to avoid my mobile usage. I have limited it to few.

The first thing I did was to avoid any instant mobile use the first thing when I woke up. Many individual like to carry their phone in morning walk or try to get into tye news world as soon as they awake from overnight sleep. This prsctices seriously increases the anxiety level of any individual, as the news, update etc may cause stress and pressure for tye days work. I never took my mobile for morning walk. Once get back had my breakfast then only I get a look into the mobile for getting the updates and also to check on #hive status. Then I do check on few finance apps before calling a break. Again, I make use of it as and when required. Overall, I have limited my mobile usage for only few hours in a day.

Over-reliance on mobile phones can significantly impact various aspects of life, including physical and mental health, social interactions, and cognitive function

  • Prolonged screen time can cause eye strain, blurred vision, and headaches.

  • The blue light emitted by screens can disrupt our sleep

  • Mobile phone addiction can lead to compulsive use, affecting daily activities and relationships.

  • Overreliance on phones for information and tasks can hinder critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and memory retention.

  • Unnecessary phone usage can lead to a significant loss of time that could be spent on other activities.

If we goes on counting we may find more drawback then mobile benefits. Health is wealth and if we detriarate it with over reliance on mobile devices we may affect our weslth badly. It is to be noted tha, while mobile phones offer numerous benefits, over-reliance can have significant consequences for physical, mental, and social well-being. It's important to cultivate a healthy balance and use these devices mindfully.
