Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?

In a society that glorifies self-gratification, it can be easy to fall prey to vanity. In todays the so called digital lifestyle, people may compare their social lives to their friends on Facebook or check Instagram for likes on their photos. Just to see their status online. Vanity is an excessive concern with one's physical appearance or achievements.

Vanity can lead to a lack of empathy, aggression, and an inability to feel shame. It can also cause relational difficulties and make it hard to improve or communicate openly. Vanity can also be linked to narcissism and arrogance. People who are vain may have an inflated sense of self and may believe praise even when it's insincere. They may also be preoccupied with their appearance or achievements, and may seek out expensive things to prove their success.

Living life with a touch of vanity.

I came across many people who alwsys assume them superior then others. For them money is everything and under it influence, they Carey certain things that hurts other. Butbthey do not have regret or any remorse. Tye so called fake success get over their head and in pursuit they get into a zone where they assume that whatever they does were the best. But I alwsys wo Der why people get into a Vain situation. In my opinion, people may have vanity about themselves for a number of reasons ;

  • Inflated self-concept: Vain people may have an inflated sense of self and may not realize that their self-regard may seem overbearing.

  • Belief in praise: Vain people may believe praise they receive, even if it's insincere. They consider themselves superior than others.

  • Excessive self-concern: Vain people may be excessively concerned with themselves and their public image. Being on top of others is what they look for. They never care about others and their suffering.

  • Drive to increase self-value: Vain people may have a drive to increase or highlight their self-value. For the sake of it they can go to any limit.

  • Social comparison: Vanity can be classified as upward or downward, depending on whether someone thinks others are higher or lower than themselves.

Vanity can make it easy to make wrong decisions, especially if you're convinced you're right. Vanity can be a negative trait because it can lead to a number of psychological issues :

  • People who are vain may have trouble with relationships. Under the influence of superiority they go beyond any limit.

  • They may be uncaring about others' perspectives.

  • They may be aggressive.

  • They may not be able to feel shame. They are happy with their wrong doing

  • They may not be open to improvement or communication.

People often comes out with the excuse of being pride, however being proud of yourself is different from being vain. Pride is a sense of personal fulfillment and inner peace that doesn't require validation from others. It becomes important to avoid being vain because it can lead to harmful social traits and a negative self-image. This is leading a simple and respectfully life is always favorable.

Peace!!

It is difficult to draw a line between self-care and Vanity. People have set a standard for themselves and usually judge others by that level of standards.
I am guilty of the same thing. I used to groom well earlier, used to apply hair gel, a neatly trimmed beard, and a face pack on every visit to the barber. And my thinking was this is the least one can do for themselves. But now I realise that not everyone is so concerned with such a level of grooming and all of this is a personal choice. You trim or clean shave or letting the beard grow is a personal choice. ❤️☮️

It's a great topic and also a very good final reflection. They are not the same, but there are people who take the word proud as a negative and in reality it is vanity. Hugs!
