"Less perfection, more authenticity" : Better ideas for texting.

In today's time, sending and receiving messages is very easy. Thanks to differrnt online mode and various application we can instantly send any message to other and simultaneously receive such messages from others. It is quite fascinating how the world has evolved over the time, from SMS (short message services) , to pager messages , to now WhatsApp messages. Texting has been an important source of communication, and the technology has identified it's importance for communication. When the calls / voice network is not working properly, it is the #texting that comes to our rescue to communicate with others.

The first text message was sent in 1992 by Neil Papworth from a desktop computer to Richard Jarvis at Vodafone. In 1993, "connecting india" was Nokia popular tag line after becoming the first cell phone manufacturer to support sending text messages. In the 2010s, texting technologies evolved to include MMS and emojis. Platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, etc gained widespread popularity. Now and then we do access these application to stay connected with the known ones. Even while writing this post I checked the application multiple times to stay informed. In simple words, #exting offers a simple and straightforward way to communicate important messages in a direct manner. However, we need to be careful with the way the texts messages are written. Especially, when the auto correct is enabled in the application. Autocorrect works by comparing the words you type against a dictionary or a user-defined list of words. It can automatically correct misspelled words or suggest corrections. But many a times it picks the wrong word which were stored previously.

Jargaon and message

Sending text messages is so simple. Open the messaging app on your phone or computer, select the recipient, and type your message and hit the send button. One of the major drawback of texting is that people start writing in a short way. Instead of writing full words they limit it to shorter text. Texting make people to explore the shorter way of writing. Like "and" is replaced by & / n, like wise great is replaced by gr8, and many other smart way. What made life more difficult is that these shorter writing format made people to use in everything. I remember an instance from an office email, where my junior drafted a formal email with these shorter format, making it complete unprofessional writing. It is important we should contraint ourself with proper writing. After all communication is all about writing and delivering proper messages.

Do's & Dont's - Be better!

In my opinion texting is an art and must adhere to certain rules. Here are some texting do's and don'ts:

• Try to respond to texts promptly, but don't feel obligated to respond to every text.

• Text messages are best for short messages, so stick to a few sentences.

• It is always sensible, to check for spelling and grammar. Any mistakes must be corrected before delivering.

• A consistent tone can help build trust with recipients. Make sure we do not incorporate authorities or dictative tone.

• Don't text while driving or at a movie, play, or concert.

• Don't text about sensitive news. Such news may spread like fire in jungle and put us in risk. It may end up with chaos and panic.

• Try to avoid sending too many attachments in a text. Make it only relevant.

• Don't text with people we don't know in real life. It does not make sense to start a conversation with an unknown over text.

• Avoid sharinv out personal information.

• Avoid tapping on links that we aren't 100% sure are legitimate. Spammers are getting smarter to fraud us.

• Avoid using all caps letter while draftinv, as it's considered the equivalent of yelling. It does not appears to be a good communication.

• Avoid making use of slangs and shorter texts. It may create confusion in recipient mind.

• Always make sure to paraphrase, before hitting tye send button. Message should be clear and precise.

Most people carry their phones with them, so texting is an accessible way to communicate. Texting is a less intrusive way to communicate than calling, and we can read or answer messages when it's convenient. So better make a sensible way of sending messages. When writing a good text message, we can keep it short, clear, and direct. We can also use simple language that's easy to understand and avoid jargon, abbreviations, or slang.
