Evaluating Mobile Recharge Value Packs. [Each penny matters]
It is the time of the year when I needed to select a good recharge plan to stay active with my phones and internet. These two are now the most essential of our life and it is necessary to keep them alive so that not to miss out on various updates and happening around. Internet is more important which Influneces our life in various ways. From news, to banking, to all other purpose. It is now must for our life. Thanks to our mobile services, we get regular expiry notification before the sceheduled date. We do not need to keep a track always. Likewise, I started getting regular updates with various recharges plan on my mobiles as i am nearing my recharge expiry.
Consumption based decision.
For the last 2 years, I basically opt for the plan as per my internet consumption level. If required, I boost my plan on with added internet top-up packs to fulfill my occasional demand. Which rarely happens, like last year I only added a 18GB packs and that too when, I was interested in watching Cricket world cup.
Long term plan.
I always prefer to opt for an yearly prepaid plan of 365 to avoid missing out on the regular monthly recharges and it also it comes up with some added benefits.
- Yearly plans comes with cheaper cost than a monthly recharges
- A one time charges allows us to stay active throughput the year without any disturbances.
A regular monthly plans is bit expensive as compaired to yearly plan. And this makes me to chose it for the last few years. Now as the time arrived for this year renewal, I started considering few options before finalising the best offer.
Current plans and offers.
Currently, I am considering make a choice between two plans.
First Plan : At Rs.2999 ($36.5). The offers include, 2.5 GB / day Data and valid for 365 days (12 months) with unlimited calls and sms's There were some shopping and useless OTT coupons included to woo the customers.
Second Plan : At Rs.2545 ($31) offering 1.5 GB / day data usage with unlimited calls and sms's and valid for 336 days (11 months)
Apart from the yearly plans, I am considering these two options as well :
An additional 30 days recharge will cost me Rs.239 with same data plan.
Here is the reason I do not prefer monthly recharges, if chosen the above plan then the cost will be 239*12 = Rs.2868 ($34.9). Monthly recharges is expensive by Rs.323 ($3.9)
An additional 50GB data will cost me Rs.222 valid till the base plan I.e 336 days.
Making a choice
I am not heavy data user, and my daily consumption falls around 1GB of data, unless and untill I make some downloads. With my current packs, my 1GB data remain unutlised for most of days. The main drawbacks of my mobile services provider is that they do not carry forward the unused daily data. So every dsy I allotted a 2GB in my current plan and it is upto me to use it full or partial. Same will applies to the two above plans. Looking at both the option, we get two varied scenarios
Scenario 1
First plans appears to be more profitable, as I am getting more data 2.5GB as compaired to 1.5 GB, for a maximum number of 365 days. In all probability, it has the benefit of extra 1GB of data. But as my usage is limited to close to 1GB per day, the extra data is of no use of me.
Scenario 2
If we add the two additional available packs on the second plans the total amount will be 2545+239+222 = Rs.3006 ($36). The lump sum 50GB data allows to use the data till my plan exists. Gives an extra edge to utilize the data as an when required.
Conclusion
On any given day, if I needed to make use of data more than 2.5GB on any given day, then again I have to added the plan with some added Data packs like that of Rs.222 allowing me to be unrestricted on data services. But again, It will increases my cost of First Plan By Rs.222.
This makes me the second plan more effective and useful. As my data utilization of 1GB remain in check and also it comes a bit cheaper which matters most. Even If I exhaust my data bundle of 50 GB I can increase with other bundle packs as per requirements.
Every drops matters and saving a little bit during the year means a lot.
What would be your choice in these case. Do you too do Maths before recharging?
Peace!!

I haven't chosen any plan since like ever, always get a one as a benefit at work. An unlimited one, obviously.
