Embrace 'soft-skills' and embark on a journey of continuous growth.

My career journey from a smallee manufacturing unit to the big corporate world and then my career advancement over the years was more of a fairytale stories. However it is not so smooth as expected and filled with many challenges and hard work. Choosing a career is easy. A perso can opt for engineers, doctors, accountant or anything of their area of choices. However to make a mark on their respective areas requires a lot of skills. The same happened to me during my career. When I got my first promotion withing 10 months of joining, it was incredible feeling, but it required to develop a certain set of skills that I added to my personality while working in the corporate sector.

Adding set of skills to the area of expertise helps in sailing smoothly in the career. In the competitive world , where everyone wants to excel, adding differrnt skills will ensure a career growth. Skills are a form of currency in the working world, and can help you be more valuable as an employee. Theses skills can help us in our employment in differrnt ways:

• Employers prefer applicants who are willing to learn new skills, and having the right skills can make you a better candidate.

• Upgrading our skills can increase our chances of getting promoted within our current organization.

• New skills can open up new opportunities in different industries and roles.

• Skill development allows us to keep up with changes in the job market and adapt to new trends and practices.

• The more skills we have, the more attractive we are to employers, and the more we can make of the different opportunities that came along the working life.

It all depends upon the employee to harness the differrnt set of skill in is.

I remember, a guy who was not familiar with operating computer, neither he was conversant with email writing, or spoken English. However he worked upon it dedictaely and today working in one of the big audits company of the world.

Adding skills is like beautifying our outlook towards our job. It requires the person interest, and dedication to continously work upon it for the betterment. A person can develop skills through work based learning, such as internships and service learning opportunities. Job seekers can also attend CareerForce Center workshops and other job search events. Also in todays time many companies offers different soft skills courses to refine their workforce. #Genpact being one such company which always works towards improving emplyee soft skills through different courses and programs

Choosing a Soft skill

Soft skills, which are personal attributes that affect how well we interact with others and work, are essential for success in the workplace, our company, and our personal life. Developing these skills can help us build trust, form relationships, and helps in leading teams. Some of the soft skills that are frequently in demands are:

Adaptability - The ability to adjust to changing circumstances, such as new priorities, projects, clients, or technology. Adaptable people can keep up with changes at work, whether they are process updates or changes to the work environment.

Leadership - Good leaders inspire and motivate their teams to achieve goals, set clear expectations, and create a positive and inclusive work environment.

Problem solving - The ability to find alternative solutions to complex challenges and opportunities. Effective problem solving can lead to innovative solutions and foster a culture of continuous improvement and adaptability. "Thinking out of the box" being a common phrases that goes along in many companies.

Communication - Strong communication skills can improve relationships with colleagues, clients, and customers, facilitate collaboration and teamwork, and enhance overall job performance. Many organisation alwsys look out for candidate having better communication skills.

Time management - The ability to manage time effectively can help people avoid stress and anxiety from missed deadlines. It can also make people seem more reliable and efficient, which can help them stand out in the workplace.

Refining these skills will surely help anyone to stand a step ahead in the competitve career race. Make sure before hitting the career world, work upon these skills to enjoy a trouble free career.
