Climbing the career ladder, one step at a time.

One of my nephew is studying in a prestigious engeeneering college, far away from our home. Though there are many institute near to our home still he preferred a college too far away from home for his higher studies. It is almost a 36 hrs train travel time. And during festival he has to cover such distance. Last night I went along with him at the railway station to see him off. I put up the question for choosing a college so far away. His instant answer was that the campus placement of the college had a good track record. In other sense, he joined the institute after looking at the placement data for securing a quick job oppurtunity rather than a mesningful educational degree. This obviously made me to wonder if the colleges are meant for education or ensuring career to their student.

There was a time when student enrolled at college for higher studies. They wanted to pursue a good degree so that will allow them in securing a good job in reputed organisation. Such degrees help them.in building a career. Study being their first priority followed by job. But now with the change of time and many companies offering campus interview , the students were not made to run for jobs neither there were much struggle. They get some quick oppurtunity at the door of their studies. Campus interview has become a trend in upscale educational system.

Making moves

Campus interviews are an effective way to hire new employees because they allow companies to access a diverse pool of candidates with unique experiences. Here are some benefits of campus interviews:

Comprehensive evaluation: Campus interviews are part of a range of recruitment activities that allow companies to directly interact with potential candidates. This allows for a more comprehensive evaluation process.

Student-friendly: When companies collaborate with university career services, they can ensure that recruitment activities are accessible to a broad student base.

Innovative experience: Companies can set themselves apart from competitors by providing candidates with an innovative experience, such as an escape room-type assessment.

In earlier time, these colleges were suppose to harness the quality of student and build them for career. But now with the easy job oppurtunity, I doubt on the actual calibre of a student. As in case with my nephew, he is not much bothering for studies, as he is more sure of getting a job due to placement. I am not sure if there is anytime of bafreement between the college and companies. But the trend more and more student enrolling to colleges where the placement records is good. Noone is bothered about their real talent that could get them a job at anyplace.

In my opinion, a student should be mentally prepaired and ready to crack any kind of interview. Having a real raw talent will make them more confident to be in limelight of being picked at any situation. It is like make companies to run after you with your talent rather than being ran for the company for some easy picking. Also student needs to change their mindset towards their career they should bothered about their studies more and forget about placement, unless and untill oppurtunitys knocks at their door.

Peace!!

The times in which we or our generation used to study have changed a lot, now it's like they already have a job but the effort would be less and they don't care so much about knowing, about deep knowledge. ....

You hit the point in your conclusion, i always tell young ones before heading to the higher institution they should try and gather experience and try out some works, so that they wont be caught off guard when it comes to interview. many even when in school start thinking about work instead of focusing more on their studies. i wish a lot of young ones will see it.
