A daughter is a melody that plays forever in our heart.

There was this priest in our apartment temple, having 4 daughter in his family. In quest to have a Boy he keeps increasing his family and in same time did aborted many pregnancies. Unable to conceive a boy did upset him and his wife, and now after four girls child and killing few in the womb he is now settled and not looking forward to extend his family further. This is one of the many instances in India, where in persuit to own a boy, a couple or family keeps inceasing his family count or ends up killing many unborn child in the womb. There is nothing hidden from the society, as most of the family alwsys looking forward to have a Male child in their family, but if they unable to conceive they either face family backlashes or social boycott.

There were many cruelty against women reported in India, if she unable to conceive boy. Boys has always been a first preference in any family. The belief that a family will cease to exist without a male heir is a strong cultural norm. Sons are believed to perpetuate the family name and lineage, which is especially important in patriarchal societies where the family's history is traced through the male line. In a patriarchal society, sons are seen as more likely to inherit family property, ensuring a future for their parents. Parents may face pressure from their families and communities to have a son, especially if they have several daughters. Social expectations can influence a family's decision to have more children until a son is born. Just for the sake of boys many parents undergo abortion Multiple times, untill they get a boy. I am really pissed off with the beliefs and mentality of the society.

In the country where women were worshipped, and considered to be the form of Godess Durga, Lakshmi or Saraswati, the born of a girl child to a family is alwsys greeted with regrets. Daughters are often seen as a financial burden due to the dowry system, where families are expected to provide a dowry to the groom's family upon marriage. The moment a girl is born, the first expression from the family and society was that she belongs to other family.

Societal pressure

Being one of the sufferer at the hand of society, it is not easy for parent to stay stand in the community. But some strong stances has allowed me to make my thought pretty clear. In the current times, it is not easy to have more children at home. And also few of my cousin have single boys at home, which made me to argue and putting my thoughts more clearer. Having a single child at home, can the parents stop them from their career progress. What if he move abroad for higher studies or job or something happen. Does the family then regret of not having more male child at their home ? There are many questions which are not answered properly.

While the preference for sons is deeply rooted in Indian culture, there is a growing movement to challenge these norms and promote gender equality. The acceptance of having a girl child has significantly improved over time, though challenges remain. There's a growing awareness of the value of a girl child, with more people recognizing their potential and contributions to society.

Daddy's little girl.

A girl at home is like an angel at-home. A daughter is more dearer to her Dad. She is more emotionally attached to her father than mother. When she looks for a life partner, she alwsys try to find the father reflection on their husband. A girl can contribute to her parents by being financially independent, providing emotional support, offering practical help, and demonstrating respect and gratitude. Girls often feel a stronger sense of safety and protection with their dads compared to their mothers, leading them to gravitate towards them for comfort and security. A father's active involvement in a girl's life, including listening to her, understanding her feelings, and providing emotional support, strengthens their bond and fosters a sense of love and connection.

But we seems to forgetting the all important contribution made by a girl in searching for love in the hands boys.

In good faith - Peace!!

In the country where women were worshipped, and considered to be the form of Godess Durga, Lakshmi or Saraswati, the born of a girl child to a family is alwsys greeted with regrets.

A sad irony.

While the preference for sons is deeply rooted in Indian culture, there is a growing movement to challenge these norms and promote gender equality.

Have you seen the changes in your local experience, or is it moving very slowly?

All I can say, their is the contradiction of valuing women as goddesses while undervaluing them in families. By blending personal stories with cultural critique, the way, you deliver a powerful message advocating for gender equality and challenging outdated norms.
