What If There Was No Reward Pool? | Would You Still Upload?

avatar

Hello SPIers, today to talk about whether you would still post content on HIVE if there were no reward pool.

image.png

Why?

Just to see who's honest and who is not 🤣. I bet the most popular comment will be "I'd still post but not as much" which is a dirty lie for 99% that say this.

image.png

I came to steemit from thesilverforum and at first, I copy/pasted a few of my forum posts to see how it all worked. If there were no reward pool, im fairly sure I would not be here today. Pre-Justin Sun steemit was amazing BTW, sorry, pre "new STEEM" I mean was amazing.

So I would not be here if I did not earn from content. I would have either stayed and posted on thesilverforum or found some active stacking subreddit. But I am here and Im very thankful I did find Steemit, aside from earning from creating content, it got me way more into crypto. I love my silver stack but as an investment, it kinda sucks, it's more of a store of value and if it keeps up with inflation, it's doing its job. I swapped from saving for silver every week to buying BTC each week and it has worked out much better over the past few years compared to stacking silver. Im more of a gold guy these days anyways thanks to crypto 😏 which was seeded from Steemit.

I already dont upload content from my personal account because im lazy but i do upload content for 4 accounts connected to SPinvest. I currently upload 10 posts per week, 7 of these are reports or weekly updates. The remaining 3 posts are just me talking about something, something SPI-related, something about something im thinking about like today. It's a pointless post really but it'll be nice to see the comments to see how honest people are. Im sure few people would still post for sure and I'd be 1 of them.

image.png

If the reward pool were to stop tomorrow, no in 8 days after this post gets paid out, would i still post from SPinvest? Yes, and I would upload 7 posts per week. These would be the weekly reports and update posts. These 7 posts each week not only earn us a few HIVE but also keep investors up to date with how their investments are performing and thats important. The posts appear in people's feeds each week which is good and even if they dont check the post, they see we are active and not a dead project and of course, it helps with getting more eyes on us as well.

What about you?

Would you have started on steemit or hive.blog if there were no reward pool? And also, how has finding here affected your investments if at all. Better or worse for finding here.

Thanks for reading through the post, i look forward to the comments and seeing what people have to say. Feel free to slap a juicy upvote or share this with your followers. Have a great day!

TBH, my number 1 reason for posting here is to earn some extra money. Though I haven't really been that active for a few months and I'm not earning enough here. For the past couple of weeks (at least), I intensified my activities here to build up my rep, hoping, I'd buildup my earnings too,
If there are no more reward pool here... maybe I'd still keep on writing. Just as I am still posting (though not too frequent) in ReadCash that stopped paying for about year already.

Perhaps, if I don't get enough interactions, then maybe that's the time I'd stop uploading here.

That would be my point of stopping as well. If there are no interactions, its not worth it anymore. The STEEM days were alot more interactive but there was less to do with no hive-engine existing and blogging is all it was.

Thanks for the checking out the post and dropping a comment.

What do I know? I post a lot of videos of rare, heavy, noisy music, live garage bands, and the like. I don't expect to be compensated for that at all, because it's not really for everyone.
As for the other posts, I don't know. I post all this for fun, but also to see how much my efforts are worth. So if my effort is worth 0 then I would very probably not post.

Most of our post rewards come from autovotes those days so the content for most of us does not matter. The effort is not important.

Damn, you got me thinking about starting to upload videos again, lol

I would like to say I still would, but in reality I most probably would stop very soon. I used to write without any rewards on my blog, but back then I was discovering my passion for orchids and I really wanted to document all my new additions to my collection.

Later on I started writing on read.cash and I was writing for as long as I was rewarded and for a little while after the rewards ended, but very quickly my attention was fully shifted to hive and so in all honesty I’m pretty sure the same would happen here.

Maybe I would still post my actifit reports on my alt to try and stay on top of my fitness, maybe occasional report on my savings and/or p2e games I play, but that would be it I think 🤔

Sounds very honest. We move where the money is cause that's where the people will be.

Always the case! Let’s hope the reward pool won’t be removed anytime soon, cause I like it here 😁

I don't post now even when there is a reward pool...having posted every day for years, no longer caring about that has greatly improved the quality of my life. Let the whales circlejerk for it, I'm out.

Im the same from my personal account. I used to post 2 times a day when i first started, then 1 time a day and then stopped completely near 2 years ago. Your right, it's like a huge weight off your back. I release plenty of content of spinvest but most of it is templates were they are 70% complete so its fairly easy.

Honestly...I am not sure if it would be here. In the end the blogging is to try to get some reward out of it in some kind of way. Maybe it would be a more profi blog with banners and ads for all I know.

I do know the reward pool helps with motivation ;)

Banners are interesting. I remember back on STEEM, there was a website that offered advertising banners for STEEM posts. You could advertise banners in your content and earn some STEEM are pay to advertise your products/services. Was a really neat project, your comment made me think about it.

Since it takes me many hours for my posts, I would most likely stop posting, including the chess tournaments. That would be very sad, but I won´t self exploit me more than currently :)

I think we all would stop posting, let’s be honest lol. Some would continue for a short period of time but that would end. Some of those with a higher stake might continue but anyone without much of a stake is guaranteed to be gone. If there is no incentive to work, people don’t work. There would be nothing special about hive apart from 99% of the other tokens out there if there was no reward pool.

It is good to talk about this stuff though! It’s important to put these ideas out there and let us challenge them for how foolish or detrimental they are. You challenge yourself and ideas when you are able to talk and think about these situations instead of shutting them down and away.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. HIVE would pretty much die off, while the blogging side anyways. It might continue on and might even thrive with gaming and defi stuff. We might have a SMT by now, haha

Hahaha the infamous SMT’s.. carrot on a stick dangling in front of us forever.

¿Why? ¿For what? ¿What would be the point?

If there is no reward pool then I will stop posting anything and focus on drawing. Because my first post was an art challenge, but now I'm not drawing anymore because I'm busy making posts (although not every day).

lol, that sucks.

Spend most of your allocated time drawing and small amount of that time taking pictures and uploading it. Make easier faster posts

if there is no reward pool, will there be any earning from doing here? if yes from other method, then I might stay. Else, let say there is no rewards or earning at all, what's the different with Web 2.0 or let say bluntly Blogspot...

If there were no reward pool, i'd guess would would still have hive-engine tokens. Earning from alot of those would go to zero as many are connected to curation and content rewards but a few would survive and im sure alot of new ones would appear.

I think I would still be posting as I have a mission to get all my work documented on the Hive Blockchain for future reference but I would probably also be posting it in many other places.

so, you'd be writing on 1 platform to release to many platforms. Is there any other good ones that pay decent?

I am not really sure as I have not looked into it but I have been meaning to look into Nostr. Hopefully Hive will grow and grow and with better search for ever green content I am sure there will be better ways to monetise content in the future outside of the reward pool. As it is most posts fall down the back of the sofa cushions after 7 days. I believe HAF should provide to possibilities of keeping older posts alive.

I've always been looking to build a passive income, one that doesn't depend on posting. No reward pool raises other questions for me, though:

  • is that no reward pool for curating either?
  • what would be the effect on second-layer tokens?
  • would there be any inflation? no?

asking for a friend 😁

ok, tell your friend, haha.

Yea, i'd guess there would be no curation rewards and this would affect alot of HE tokens greatly. Any of the ones connected to curation rewards would be dead, eds-vote would become pointless, and infact EDS would become pointless. Dont know off hand were HIVE inflation comes from.

A bunch of stuff would survive but alot would be wrecked as well.

It's an interesting discussion which I've been following and I guess it's always good to have open discussion, especially around contentious topics. This one seems to spring from some users feeling that some aspect or another of Hive is unfair and that the way to correct this is to remove the reward pool. I could be wrong, but I feel there are some fairly basic misunderstandings about Hive in this idea 😍.

Depends on the traffic left that still caters to the art crowd. I'm blogging on other platforms without expecting much and posting here gets me extra perks.

Thats a good point. Traffic is important and getting your stuff out there is more important than a small reward.

Thanks for your comment.
